After dragging ourselves away we drove back to Heraklion, we plan to visit the Minoan Palace at Knossos tomorrow and want to be there early, we hoped there would be a car park at the site where we could stay, sure enough there ...

... deep gorges, by the middle of the afternoon we turned off the main road and dropped down the side if a gorge, at one point it was so tight you could have touched both sides, however you would have got wet feet in the river. There aren't any way markers informing you how far to the next point if interest of even how long the path is, do after a couple of hours we decided we should turn back. On the way back we passed another couple with rucksacks and could hear a farmer calling to his animals, there ...

... more empty or deritict houses than are occupied. The houses are small and low single story, most have animal shelters attached to them. A couple of times we drop down to the sea, it's a beautiful pale turquoise colour today, yesterday it looked green, it's fascinating how the colour appears to change each day. At one if the bigger hamlets on the coast there were some caves underneath the road and a church was built into one of the caves, just the bell tower visible ...
