Well I suppose the end of our trip had to have some bad weather! We reached Nisos Kasos and tied-up in the corner of the harbour against the wall with little time to spare before the full gale hit the area. The waves crashed against the outer breakwater and others washed right over the 25-30m jetty creating a waterfall by us and the local boats. With our supplies running short it was on the 3rd morning, after a 2nd yacht (also sheltering) made a successful attempt to leave and headed off in the opposite direction, that we were able to move on to our next port. The wind was still blowing a force 4-5 and increasing, BUT in our favour, so it was a good sail, though a strain to helm for the 5 hours passage to Nisos Kasos and a harbour.
Alf and Roberta are not morning people, so the following morning, I am met by Pete who takes me for breakfast. Roberta has told me that I will recognise him because he ‘looks English’ but several years on this sunny island has made him look more like a local so I am relieved that he seems to recognise me and we head for one of the harbourside restaurants for an English breakfast. Well, that was interesting. Sort of like a roller coaster. The plane is small and has to battle the heat coming up from the desert when landing, so it is kind of like a 5 minute roller coaster!
