Mudhumalai is out of nightmare now

... inside the car at that night giving as a feel we are at the middle of the jungle no lights, we dont know where is the route and how we have to proceed. Thank god at last we reached home only because of the tribe (now I understood tje importance of a guide). The most fun part is the local guy asked us to put on high beam to the maximum on top of the tree, he just wanted to ensure that no panther or cheetah sitting on the tree (earlier he had seen black panther twice sitting in one ...

Third Culture Shock

... sense of belonging is in relationship to others of a similar background."

I am a TCK. My mother was living and working in Zambia when she met my father, and I was raised there until the age of seven when we moved permanently to Canada. The realization came with a chuckle, and my hosts nodding their heads as I described my own experience. “And your choice to live outside your native country is classic TCK behaviour,” said John approvingly. I didn’t know that I ...

... red and black) wrapped around my neck I was well prepared for Dicken’s Oliver Twist.

The stage was larger than the night before, on three wooden interconnected platforms, set with furniture and black curtains. The cast was large and the performance strong, with all the gravitas of a graduating class putting themselves out there with passion and force. Every aspect of the drama festival was run by the students themselves, and though they were overseen by a variety of drama ...

Above the Clouds at the Queen of Hill Stations

The road wound up into the hills and mountains and higher until it disappeared in the clouds. On either side of the twisting road were precipitous fields of tea plantations, forests of eucalypt trees, and settlements perched on the roadside overlooking the giant valley below. The Volvo bus lurched back and forth on the road, passing by a hair the oncoming traffic of other buses, trucks and many two-wheelers. A very young Bollywood mega star Sha Rukh Khan starred in a ...

On decide a peine arrive, de repartir le plus tot possible. On se ballade dans cette ville sans grand interet ...

Lost Entry 4: Bandipur National Park

... is actually inside the park.  It was basically a generator powered group of little cabins, with a dining hall, and rec room, which animals could venture in and out of as they please.  For this reason, there was serious ten o'clock curfew, and a pretty organized schedule.    Once we arrived, we had a couple hours to move into our cabin before we headed out on our first safari.  We pilled into the back of an open air jeep that was exactly what you imagine as the ...

Nilgiri Mountain Railway

... it was cold. We had to cycle up the first 3 kms and then it was downhill all the way. While we were whizzing down in the sun it was warm enough for just 2 layers, but in the shade it was blooming freezing, but with every kilometre we covered it got warmer and warmer. Once you round the top of the mountain over Ooty and actually start descending into the valley it is the most beautiful scenery, we had to keep stopping and looking it was so ...

Ooty

Ooty was such a let-down. It has been described as the 'Surrey of India' clearly by someone who's never been to Surrey. The bus ride into Ooty (or Ootacamund to give it it's full name) from Mysore is quite nice, or so I've heard. My mind was more occupied with trying to calculate the risk of dying if we fell down the side of the mountain on which the 'road' was so precariously sitting. It was also a very bumpy ride - at times our bums left the seats momentarily - and the ...

... well camouflaged so didn't really get a good luck (camera shy i think!). Hopefully we'll see more along the way! We've had a great afternoon i went horse riding (so I'm now walking dodgy and ache- I'm not a natural at horse riding!) whilst Helen wandered, then we went on the peddalows and fair ground rides in ooty park. We had a group of followers who followed us on all the rides, it was a group of guys who ...

As the conversation with the other passengers lulled I began to observe the landscape outside the window and found myself suddenly gripped by a deep sense of happiness as I reflected upon the last few weeks of the trip. India has such a power to evoke a strong emotional response and although the balance thusfar has substantially favored such emotions as frustration and anger at that ...
