... I got 3 for 10 TL, including a sturdy mailing tube. The museum was fantastic. There had been a sculpting school, and the sculptures were excellent. Susan, with her distaste for ruins, was impressed and loved the museum too.

... signs pointed uphill and off we set. It was about 1km of steep track passing various walls, gates and structures before we got to the main site. The city was destroyed by an earthquake around the 2nd C and abandoned. It has never been fully excavated or restored and the whole site is a jumble of stone blocks and pillars. ... there is a new tram which runs out to the Otogar) we headed back to Kaleiçi to find the old covered bazaar. We found it but it was a disappointment after the wonderful Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. Walked out of Kaleiçi I to the non tourist part of town to a recommended Pide and cafeteria restaurant. Food was great and cheap. We both had dinner for 19 TL (about $10)- can't beat ...

... really quite nicely done with lots of upmarket hotels and restaurants.

Late in the day we caught the bus home and walked down to the beach where Annie braved the sea. She tells me it wasn't that cold but I don't believe her.... I think I'll have to wait until I'm in Italy next month!

Tomorrow we are off to the mountains and for those following my passport drama they tell me it will be here tomorrow morning.
