... fig tree, everything else seemed to grow bigger and better. It was a banner year for Japanese beetles-from their point of view; they have been (and are) making us miserable for twelve weeks! Finally, their ranks are thinning and the roses are celebrating. They, the roses, not the beetles, are splendid!

Tutto va bene. In just six days, we leave for Italy where we will spend seven days ...

Amsterdam on the brand-new MS Inspire is not just about tulips, they are the reason we are going now, just as our own bulbs, very late this year after an unusually cold winter, are about to bloom. I will miss the daffodils, hyacinths and, of course, tulips in our garden, but this one Spring I will see them growing in Holland, something I have wanted to do for a very long time.

... I haven't checked out Legos for years--and boy have they gotten impressive! The store was a lot of fun--little scenes were made with Legos and put on display behind plastic viewing windows. A few little stations were set up for the sole purpose of playing with Legos. Boxes and boxes of Lego sets lined the shelves--everything from a Tolkien-esque troll encampment to a three-foot tall model of the Eiffel Tower! A friendly, helpful store ...
