... beers. Noma decided to have rissoles and I had mousaka. yum! Sitting there looking out over the water something jumped out right next to the sore..... We had a short little discussion and decided it was a 6ft shark. no swimming on that beach for us! Only kidding... I actually think it was someone throwing stones into the sea but Noma wasn't having any of it!

So we retired back to the room and caught up on some sleep again. And boy did we need it! We eventually woke up ...
Santorini, Cyclades, Greece markandnoma2009Well, a very enjoyable last night in Santorini. had dinner at a lovely restaurant overlooking the sunset strip. Pity it wasn't the clearest of nights but still spectacular.
Dinner consisted of grilled pork with pureed red pepper and potatoes with cheese and Souvlaki Lamb with baked potato.
A 5.00 am start got us on to the flight to Athens then Rome.
Oia, Cyclades, Greece corny15After a sleep in we wandered into town to choose a suitable location for our anniversary dinner tonight (21 years!).
As usual we just had to take more photos ~ don't worry, after a few more tonight this will be all of Santorini.
Next, Italy where the forecast is 0 to 14 degrees. Oia, Cyclades, Greece corny15(Steve)

Our two stops in the greek islands were both incredible and worlds apart. Santorini was an amazing place that seemed too surreal to be true. We were greeted by a barren mountainous island in the shape of a crescent that had been the result of volcanic activity in the area. Most of the passengers opted for the cable car to get from the port to Fira, the city perched on the mountains above the port. We however chose to ride the donkeys up 600 odd ...
Santorini, Cyclades, Greece steveandwhitney... that the tidal wave/tsunami resulting from this tremendous event may well have caused the ancient Minoan civilsation at Crete to vanish completely!

After leaving the museum, we hit the local grocery shop to stock up on some cheap essentials for the next few days, including rum of course! We enjoyed a couple of quiet drinks from our private little hotel room balcony as we watched the famous Santorini sun sink below the horizon ...
Santorini, Cyclades, Greece oz09... like vinsanto and ouzo, little turkish delight looking treats with different flavours, olive tapenade, which is like an olive paste (had it on a sandwich yesterday and it was surpriisingly good considering I hate olives), cookies, and more. I totally want to bring back so many things from here, but I hate carrying it all around. Likely will anyway though. It's funny how things I won't eat at home, I barely think about when I am traveling ...
Santorini, Greece steph_444... Just 2 minutes on foot we came to the right spot! What a place! We could not believe what we saw. IT CANNOT BE DESCRIBED. One has to actually get there to feel this

For us, the timing was just perfect because tourists are expected to arrive a week later, so we had all the attention we needed, and all the quiet and privacy as well.

A tip here for visitors

If you are young you will be ...
Thíra, Greece greekcypriot... but that just means I will have to go back to Santorini one day. Since I had the rest of the day, I traveled to the north end of the island to the city of Ia. I wanted to go to the beach at the bottom of the cliff....I just didn't realize how far of a hike down it was. Down wasn't as bad as the way up. I got back to the main city in time for the sunset. Its funny that the whole town shuts down for about an ...
Fira, Greece gajordandk51Internet is pricey in Greeece. Since I last wrote, I've been spending time in Santorini, subsisting off of gyros. Santorini is site of the largest crater in the world which is totally submerged in water, resulting in spectacular views everywhere. There are cliffs everywhere full of a million different color rocks and stuff - volcanic stuff, porous rocks, etc. We took the high speed boat (I totally got seasick sitting first class on the nice boat as compared to the ghetto ...
Santorini, Greece miranda.chen... wine and beer. $17. The food was very good. Boudaraki On the south side of the port. Phone: 22297 This restaurant was recommended in the Frommer's guidebook. We Skipped having an appetizer. We had lamb cooked in a ceramic pot; I had a delicious meal of chicken, mushrooms, and bits of bacon in a cream, garlic sauce. It was rich and delicious. Their menu was different than the typical Greek menus. We also had their local white wine ...
