On our way from Coruzal to San Ignacio we dropped in at Belize Zoo, possibly the cutest zoo going around. It opened in 1983 after a number of native animals were 'left over' from a nature documentary and now continues to care for these animals and other native animals that have been mistreated or abandoned. As the only zoo in Belize it plays an important role in educating ...

... technical term is...). I was just sad we didn't see Nemo. We also had these tiny sea worms following wherever the light went. And the water was beautifully warm, I didn't need a wetsuit at all. It was a little chilly when we got out, but our guides gave us some rum punch to put that chill at ease. Once we were settled in we had some cold beers ...

Caye Caulker certainly had the laid back feel we were hoping to start out with.... it just took a day or so to find. About 12 hours of traveling later, we took one of the only open hostels we could find: Bella's Backpacking. Word to the wise: stay away! It was an overcrowded party spot with loud music all night long. Needless to say we got out quick! With luck, we found a great place to set up camp about 10 ft. away from the ocean at Pause, a cat and dog refugee center. ...

Arrived in Burrell Boom after an interesting drive from Chetumal on Mexican border. Nice to be able to speak English again. Everybody very friendly and laid back "man". A real mixture of peoples with a distinct West Indian Caribbean feel. Resort is on the Belize river which is very high due to a lot of late rain before we ...
