We only stayed at Black Orchid for one night, as a stopover upon our arrival in Belize before heading into the rain forest. They picked us up at the hotel and it took about 15 minutes to get to the resort. It's a beautiful setting overlooking a river. The room was spacious and clean, with a balcony overlooking the river.
The kids were a little sad to find that the swimming pool was drained and being repaired, but they had fun jumping on the trampoline. We went into the bar for our welcome drink and ended up staying there for dinner. The food was okay, except for the sweet and sour chicken off the kids menu which my son says was excellent! The bar tender was very nice and accommodating, and she even walked us over to show us a family of howler monkeys that came for a visit.
The biggest disappointment, besides the pool, was the continental "breakfast" the next morning. It was bread that you could toast, so we ended up just ordering from the menu and again the food was just okay.
          Overall, a pleasant stay.

We started out our trek by waking at 3:45am, to catch a 4:45am shuttle to the airport for our 7am flight. Our flight on Delta out of Milwaukee was about 2 hours to Atlanta, where we caught another 3 hour flight to Belize City.
We got into Belize at about 3pm and were picked up and taken to Black Orchid Resort for the night. The kids found a …

Dawgy was a character and our faces were aching from laughter by the time we arrived back to Dangriga. A short bus ride away and we arrived in a small village called Maya center the gateway to the Cockscombe forest basin reserve. After leaving our bags with the kind ladies at the gift shop we hiked the six miles into the reserve. After nearly two hours we arrived ...

On our way from Coruzal to San Ignacio we dropped in at Belize Zoo, possibly the cutest zoo going around. It opened in 1983 after a number of native animals were 'left over' from a nature documentary and now continues to care for these animals and other native animals that have been mistreated or abandoned. As the only zoo in Belize it plays an important role in educating ...

She too did not believe me, and you could tell that she wanted me to open up everything. Luckily the conductor stepped in and said we are already very late and that she please not look at my stuff. Fortunately, that helped and I was allowed to pass, causing about 30 minutes delay for everyone on the bus. The rest of the drive was unspectacular. There were no farmers with chickens boarding, but the bus with a capacity of ...

Had to hire our snorkel gear but once we got out on this old boat and got to the reef it was kind of cool the captain came snorkelling the reef with us and snorkelled for an hour hopped back in the boat and headed to a fishing spot. We caught about 15 fish in the first 20 minutes which was wicked then it started slowing down so we went to a second fishing spot we ...
