Unterwegs Richtung Fredericton

... br>The harbor and docking area are exquisite, and seem like they have remained the same for years. The locals don't want their small town to change, but it is changing, and they are accepting this fact graciously. They understand that tourism is starting to grow as an industry, which is no wonder to anyone who has visited the area. Experience Bar Harbor and see the best of the Eastern United States.

Enjoying the Capital of NB

October 1, 2009
At our breakfast table this morning, we were delighted to meet Peter (from Vancouver), a gentle young man visiting Saint John to help his mother-in-law move and Earl and Dianna from Kamloops. We departed Fundy Heights B&B with a fresh plucked apple and recommendations from Terry (B&B host) to take the ‘scenic route’ to Fredericton. We were pleased that we had followed his advice, even though ...

... leaf peepers" We have been doing a lot of peeping! While driving around the park we did see some wonderful fall foliage. We also poked around the quaint harbour town North East Harbour.
We had lunch and dinner at Jordon Pond. We were served popovers, a tradition at this spot for over 100 years. Popovers are basically the same as Yorkshire pudding but sweeter. They are served with butter and strawberry jam and absolutely yummy!

Got Lobster?

... this far south. There were a number of galleries here that we enjoyed. One shop had a very familiar name.

I wanted to try a lobster roll while I was there. A lobster roll is lump lobster mixed with mayo and some other seasonings in a hot dog bun. We had ours at the Lobster Shack. Very tasty but I couldn't do it for lunch every day. We were enticed into the Lobster Pound by Stone Crab claws as an appetizer. I loved them when I would go to Ft. Lauderdale on ...

On the road again

... on Toad - they have made a huge difference - but none on Bree of course, so Malc wanted the best possible conditions to restart our journey. Temperatures had really begun to rise in Halifax, it seemed that spring was on its way, though we are told that nothing will be turning green until late April. So, it was a bit of a shock when we got a call from Nat's dad on Sunday afternoon to tell us there was a storm warning in place for ...

Days 55 and 56 Maine

... where all the students hung out and where I met this really fun girl from Menlo Park. Yey Cali girls =). The lake was beautiful of course and I couldn't imagine being able to go there whenever I wanted before, after, or between class! We met up with Debi, our Maine organizer, after Colby for an event she had scheduled at U of M, Farmington. Not such a great turnout since it was Friday afternoon but 3 girls said they would be on the bus for the rally!

At Wick's End

... the crash memorial for SwissAir nearby. The coastal drive is really nice but repetitive and instead of driving to Yarmouth (seriuosly) I drove north to New Brunswick because the ferry was goig to be over 100.00$ I stopped in Wentworth, NS a quite little town with scattered houses, hostel and caves, hikes , climbing etc. But then I carried on the main Trans Canada, not much to see because of all the trees but quick. I don't ...

... taste-testing. You can eat in their Crow's Nest and have a great view of the harbor, then treat yourself at their bakery downstairs. Walk around town to see the unique items made by local artists. You'll find sea-inspired paintings, lighthouse memorabilia and more lobster-themed knickknacks than you could ever imagine. Now stay with me for a highlight of the trip. Go two miles farther west on Route 1 to Rockland, turning toward the water at the Irving Gas/Convenience Store. No kidding ...

Close call with rain and a rising river

... the road and slowly at this point made enough progress to make it all the way up and when I got over on the shoulder I turned to see what I had heard as everything had been flung off the shelves and I had a lot of straightening up to do again. I went on south a little and parked by on an old bi-pass road near Sherman, glad my van at least didn't become a boat. My art website http://home.earthlink.net/~greenvanartu sa/index.html
