... we had left off while slackpacking. Aside from an initial steep climb, it was a great hike in beautiful weather. It was almost constantly uphill, but at a very gentle slope that let me do the entire 13 miles with only one couple minute break. We made such good time that we reached the shelter around 1 pm with plenty of daylight left. The next day looked to be a *******e with several large climbs and we had so much time before sunset ...
... as much as we thought it would, it's still been nice to rest and get some laundry done. I bought a new, larger tarp for my hammock and sent my old one home. Tomorrow we have an early morning shuttle lined up to the same gap and plan on hiking another 13 miles. Thankfully the terrain seems like it will be pretty good, no huge changes in elevation, just the normal ups and downs.
Day 1: 9.5 miles, Springer Mountain to somewhere near Horse Gap

I ended up staying here in the hostel, it's supposed to pour tonight so I couldn't pass up the opportunity for a dry bed. Planning on doing about 11 miles tomorrow, it's supposed to rain and snow tomorrow so we will see if I'm able to make it to Low Gap ...
This trip was just to get away, unwind and relax. Came back here to see the friends we made last year. Been playin cards, the girls have done a couple puzzles etc... Went to Blue ridge to the Blue Ridge Community Theater and watched a play "Miracle on 34th Street". Was very entertaining. Spending a lot of time with Randy & Sherry, Francis & Gid, Bill & Norma, Johnny & Brenda and david. Took a day trip ...
... a climbing trip there is always a local pizza spot in the area with bomb ass pizza. I told the group we had to find one and we did! A place called Chicago's. We ordered a DOUBLE DECKER pizza. 1/2 pepperoni and mushroom for the guys and half of my favorite, Jalapeno and bacon! This pizza was heavenly...and we enjoyed it on the dock by the lake near the campsite while watching the sunset.
After we ate we went back to camp, hung out again around the fire, made smores ...
