Very rugged terrain, remote location. No one within 100 km of Blachford Lake Lodge. And yet this environmentally credible tourist destination manages to spoil us guests with a wide range of activities and delicious meals three times a day!

The land and water surrounding is is beautiful, yet bleak, haunting when Aurora comes out, yet cozy in our wood-pellet heated cabin!

          A truly one-of-a kind experience!

After the excitement of arriving on Sunday, and having our fantastic first Aurora experience, our stay here settled into a pattern.

          Three delicious meals a day---everything home-cooked.

Each day we tried a different experience!

On Monday, we went on a 6 km hike to "The Secret Lookout"! It was cloudy on Monday night, …

Sunday 25 September, 2016 Up at 5 am! No rest for the weary traveller. We sooo disliked our motel in YK, that we couldn't wait to get out of the place. We were down at the waterfront by 8.45 am. We had to check in at 9.30 am, fly at 10.30 am. There was a very ugly breakfast in the motel-----the one where you have bread, hard-boiled eggs & tea …

          ... uneventful.

Customs was not much fun, everyone seemed to be ornary but thankfully it went fast. The customs agent did not even talk to me. Grabbed my passport and card and looked at it and shoved it back to me. I just took it and smiled and wished him a good day :) Straight to Tim Hortons for a coffee of course!

It was time now for me to board my flight to Edmonton and Nat to head east. We said our goodbyes and I ...

And so the journey home begins. Ferg took the train with me to Kyoto. We had time for coffee as we arrived at the station a little early. I had booked a seat on the left side of the train in hopes in of seeing Mt Fuji. I had a great weekend with Ferg, he was so generous and we had a great time! I headed out to find my train. I rode the bullet train which took about 2.5 hrs. I was worried about seeing Mt Fuji as it was getting pretty cloudy. I had a ...

The first leg of our flight home got us into Edmonton at around 12:30 am and through customs without any issues by 1:30. We knew this would be the case and with our flight to Yellowknife departing at 11:30 am decided we'd just sleep in the airport. What we didn't anticipate is that we wouldn't be able to check our bags and go through security until 6:30 am. The plan was to get ...
