Just goes to show you that one is never to old to learn something new everyday. That is one thing I have learned since I have been on this trip. Now I have got to remember what I have learned to be able to pass it on. One thing that I learned is there are differences in the Amish. One is much stricter. The Amish are the ones that are strict and the Mennonites are somewhat more like the rest of the world. For ...
... hang clothes on a line outside. Many still use the horse and buggy. They have trackers but not to use for plowing. They do the plowing the old fashion way.Yep, horse and plow. LOL, we saw a man plowing with horse and plow but he was standing on a little platform with tires on it. He wasn't going to walk behind the plow. To keep them from using the tractor for anything other then around the farm they take the rubber tires off ...
... train stopped. They Allergan back to their seats. I wonder if that young man remembers that good time. I went to champion them but it ended up they made sure I was keeping up with them. Now I am making more memories from traveling back into time seeing this wonderful museum of pictures taken by O. Winston Link. There are many pictures and I hope you enjoy them as much as I did taking them.
... and putting our luggage in the room we go to the Crimson American Grill. After a little wait, we get a nice beer and a good meal. That did not change. We are back at the hotel and relaxing. I will program the GPS for the trip tomorrow and probably will not follow his instructions anyway. It will teach him a lesson, THERE !!!!
We are including some photos and a special one ...
Then we stopped at Red Lobster for lunch. Had a great waitress Taylor, who had visited Australia but couldn't remember where she had been. She was very chatty and friendly. Lunch was yummy with lobster filled mushrooms for starters and then fish, seafood linguine, soup salads, and shrimp for mains. Then because it's Lisa's birthday we had to have dessert. New York cheesecake and pineapple upside down cake. ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Bird-In-Hand Family Inn Bird in Hand
Great Family vacation
My wife and 4 sons have been coming here for 10 summers! A great family vation place, great pools, hot tub, miniture golf, and food. restraunt on premises makes eating easy in am and lunch. Close to Hershey Park, Dutch Wonderland, and Outlets. We love coming here, a relaxing resonably priced vacation. Our sons love coming here every year! The Napolitano's of Long ISland.
We just got back from the Bird In Hand Family Inn July 2004. It was our 2nd time staying there and it was great! The inn is well kept and very clean. The pools are great (2 indoor, hottub, and 1 outdoor), the people are friendly and the restaurant is very good. Its a great place to bring children. I would recommend The Amish Barn for dinner. Its a great place. I know we will visit again!
Good Place to Stay
I've stayed at several area motels, but think that this one was the best choice. Nice outdoor pool. Pretty grounds. Nice, clean rooms.
Peace & tranquility
We have stayed @ the Family Inn, and also the Bed & Breakfast Suites. They are the best! comfort, hopitality, great food and best of all the quietness of Lancaster County. It's great for families, or couples. There is something for everyone.
I frequently go to Lancaster and prior to staying here we always stayed at Willow Valley. We wanted to try someplace different and closer to town and less expensive and we found the perfect place. I just love it here. I find it to be more intimate and able to get the feel of Amish Country. I love to see the horse and buggy going by the hotel window and you can also walk to the Farmers Market wich is on the property and get the best beef jerky you ever had. They have a good 2-night package with Dinner at Miller's Smorgasbord and breakfast at the motel, wich is very reasonable. The room we had was in building C #465, a king bed with a sleeper sofa and jacuzzi tub ( regular size tub with jets) It was VERY clean and nicely decorated. Its a nice place to go with kids or just the two of you or even with just the girls, you can't go wrong!
Family Get-together in Lancaster, PA
We were there Jan2-4, 2004. Our 2 married sons and their families joined us. We had a wonderful time. Stayed at the Bird-in-Hand Family Inn...wonderful place-rooms were better than usual. Had 2 pools and a hot tub, table & video games. It was close to the attractions. Some of us went to see "The Miracle of Christmas" at Sight and Sound Theater (they said they will never look at Christmas in the usual commercial way again). We all took the guided tour (provided free by the hotel) as well as a real Amish buggy ride. Did some wood shopping, eating and had our "Christmas gift exchange." Would love to go again for a longer time.
All around great place to stay
We travel to the Lancaster, PA area often. We recently stayed at the Bird in Hand Family Inn and were not disappointed. The indoor pool facilities are superior. The playground provided hours of fun for my 2 small children and the location right next door to a great miniature golf course is ideal. The inn is right in the heart of Amish country and it is less than a 15 minute drive to any of the main attractions.
The restaurant on site is decent although we only ate breakfast there.
The price is a great value and the employees especially cleaning staff were all very helpful. I fully recommend it as a great place to stay with a family in the area. In fact, we are going back there soon.
Bird-In-Hand Family Inn
The most relaxing place I have ever been to. Lucky enough to get the last room (without reservations) available on a Saturday night and was easily accommodated with another room for Sunday night (would never have guessed it was a smoking room). Took a nap out on the lawn chaise on Sunday afternoon and woke up only to see the buggies going by. Excellent, inexpensive food in the restaurant and wonderful hot tub. Close to everything yet far enough away from the commercialized Lancaster area! Changed itinerary the following weekend so we could stop there for a night's respite before heading home. The complimentary bus tour was wonderful and the free shoo-fly pie and cookies were delicious. Didn't want to leave! Will definitely go back!
Great Clean, Affordable Family Place
Clean, affordable, great location to Strasburg Railroad events. Has three, heated indoor pools and one large outdoor pool. Great for kids and familys. Restaurant and beautiful mini-golf right next door. Restaurant is very well-priced and many locals cook and dine-in for real homemade food. Make reservations ahead of time and reserve room in pool building if swimming.
Great place in Amish Country
I stay here pretty often with my family. It is a full service motel style place to stay in the heart of Amish country. In my opinion if you are going to PA Dutch this is the only place to stay. Other places are nice, but this has indoor pool, outdoor pool, game room, mini golf and a good restaurant.
