We woke from our kind of sleep to stunning views from the windows as the train neared Villach and the Austrian Alps. We had realised that we were close to the Rosental valley, so decided that we should have a quick explore before finding a campsite with the aim of finding some tacky Rosental souvenir. Just got the news that my niece in Italy had her baby today, so lots of celebrations going on. We're planning to return to Germany and Austria next year, and a side trip to Italy will be in order. We're hoping to get a longer visa for me next March from the German Consulate, so we won't run up against the problem again.

Lovely weather, very Austrian atmosphere, it was sunday and many people wore the traditional clothes, women in Dirndl, long or short skirt with apron and white blouse, men in Lederhosen. Spectacular mountain views from the top of the Reisseckbahn. First take a three stage cable driven trains up an incredibly steep slope following a hydroelectric dam pipeline, then a tiny train through a tunnel under the mountain. ... and it had a sparkly decoration and the twins and mine were on a plate with bits of chocolate sauce around that looked like a spiderweb and a sparkly decoration too and it had cream in the Middle, vanilla and strawberry icecream and 4 biscuits and it looked pretty. Then Lily saw the iceberg which meant we were on the other side of the lake and we were nearly there. I didn't finish my icecream and Olivia had most of hers and Allegra finished all of hers ...
