As regards our Romanian holiday we have booked our accommodation, a real mixture of smart(ish) hotels, wayside B&Bs and self catering. We have the outline of a route-around 4000 kms in total taking us over the Transalpina and the Transfagarasan via a few castles all the way to the Danube Delta on the Black Sea and back via the Iron Gate Gorge,Belgrade and Zargreb.
... the Austrian Alpine region and the route we decided on involved a lot of highway running, boring but necessary to cover larger distances. Fortunately we rode the majority of the trip once again through the Alps and the scenery never failed to amaze Marg and I. The Austrians showed off their engineering ability with an unbelievable road network including tunnels longer than 5km bored directly through some of the mountains, an amazing building ...

Just when you think it can’t get any better than Germany, over the mountains (and through lots of tunnels) lies the gorgeous valley of Seeboden in Southern Austria. The landscape here reminds me of Switzerland, and our little spot looks out over green meadows, a lake, lush forests and snow topped mountains. Pretty and relaxing, but a bit cold. We stayed here last year, and our sweet landlady was as happy to see us as we were to see her. ...
