Berlin

... moving and thought provoking. After that we went back to the "wall" for a closer look, a wander around Berlin for the last time before heading back to the hotel to collect our bags and head to the airport. We thought we had it sussed and caught the Underground to another larger station and then from there to the airport. Things didn't go quite to plan and we couldn't work out how to go from one rail line to the ...

Berlin or bust

... I saw this hut up ahead that appeared to be moving. "Ute, I may be imagining things but I think that hut is moving" "No, huts don´t move. I´m sure the road is curving" "OK, we´ll see what´s going on when we get to that point" When we get there no hut. And Ute is laughing hysterically as she points out that the hut is turning left. It´s not nice to mock the tourists!

Karlshost (Berlin)

... leaving the bar, without the conversation with the owner (we left a assortment of red stones spelling the word Love at least :) we started back, to find the U-Bahn closed...bugger...and it seemed we were in for another 3 hour walk across Berlin...although not as bad as it sounds! Good exercise, and we get the know the streets of Berlin...step by step... :-0 The following day we awoke at perhaps 2:pm and after cooking a small meal with Jenny left for Alexander Platz to ...

Berlin

... Our ainm wes the statue of Golden Angel (if it is the name of it). Than we took some bus to the Unter der linden again, and went for nice, fatty Turkish Kebap. Well as a fan of Greek culture, I can tell that Gyros is better , but for hungry poor tourists from Serbia Kebap was the best thing in this moment! Reistag kuppel! The line in front of it wasn't so big, it was raining but not too much, and we decided to wait. And it was the best decision durig ...

Berlin, Germany....I'm moving there IMMEDIATELY!

... about the apartments and their background. Than, as if it wasn't a big deal, she said, "Oh, by the way you guys are standing on top of Hitler's Bunker." WOW! I was standing directly on top of what was once Hitler's Bunker and the place that he ended his life. The bunker has been completely destroyed and there are no remains of even cement walls on the ground, and it is actly illegal in Berlin to go digging in this area for anything at all! So what is this ...

Leaving Berlin

... pointing at the picture, saying "Pizza ja, sour cream nein." I am finally given an arugula pizza with extra sour cream and a large Pepsi. I stand in line at the information booth for information and a tourist map. The stern German matron at the desk is actively hostile. I'm in the wrong place, I must go to the tourist office. I remember I have a question about train tickets. She is even more hostile, points me ...

Over flying

... around. I'm glad we did - it was awesome to come and have a shower and grab some food (margarita pizza). What an eclectic city we have seen so far - beautiful buildings, run down areas, beautiful restaurants, well dressed prostitutes, graffitti - it has it all....and that was just one street! Goodnight we are off to sleep...s&t xx

The Fateful Return

... were guaranteed to happen, so I grabbed myself a pint and filtered into the crowd. At one point during the show ELB was singing 'Evil Woman' (you know, ee-EEEE-vil womannnn) and the thought occurred to me that during the 60s or 70s, whenever ELO was relevant (if such a time existed) they'd be standing before a sold-out audience barely able to hear themselves because the crowd would be drowning them out with the lyrics. Now they're standing in front of a couple hundred ambivalent, hands ...

World Cup Here We Come!

... in search for dinner. We found an amazing Italian restaurant for low, low prices...1.80 Euro for a huge bowl of pasta! Can you beat that? After dinner we dotted around for a bit and choose a strategic time to ring home to daddy for father's day. It was early retirement this day of travelling and a huge rest was much needed for events in Amsterdam and the up and coming world cup shinadigans Germany for the world cup......!!!!!

Museums

... so they do not get into trouble. In fact the museum, being in such a strategic position was often used to help people escape to the West. Through a small window escapees were looked out for and helped and warned if they were going to be caught. Much of the museum is dedicated to the ambitious escapes that desperate East Germans undertook to get into West Berlin. There are some very poignant photos of familles being separated, people being shot and left to die and euphoric ...
