Gav and I grabbed breakfast in town. There were a herd of goats - I think it was a show for us tourists but what the heck they were cute and they looked the part. We found a cafe that was serving half priced coffee and sandwiches - a nice surprise as we didn't find out until the bill arrived. Then we stalked up on food for the kids and headed back to wake them ...

... at 4:30. Then caught the last of the second lift at 4:45 pm. The views were spectacular with a clear sighting of Zermatt on one side and the peak of the Matterhorn on the other. Matt was disappointed he couldn't rent a snowboard or rent a scooter to go down but well you can't do everything. Gavin stayed in town and spent the day doing laundry - we were out of just about ...

After our gawking we walked through a tunneled out glacier with some funky ice carvings and a very slow ice slide. The kids loved the chance to go tubing in July! It was fun to see skiers everywhere too. You can ski year round here. Our day continued with a gondola ride half way back down to the town of Furi for a lunch stop. After refueling we hiked to a huge ...

Here is yet another summary of our travels thus far. It's a list of strange and/or unusual things we've seen during our summer adventure..... * heard of mountain goats being ushered through the middle of a Swiss town by teenage boys in traditional Swiss attire. The goats all had long hair and noisy cow bells! * mountain goats again.... Climbing and dinning on an extremely steep cliff on an uninhibited island in Greece above natural volcanic hot springs * stop sign in ...

    Day 10: An Italian pilgrimage

This trip is to celebrate Ben's graduation and Ben is a huge pizza fan. As loyal readers of this journal are aware, the backside of all these mountains around Zermatt is mostly Italy. If this were winter, we could just take the lift up and ski on down. Unfortunately, no snow there, so we decided to take the train instead back up through the Glacier Express canyon to Visp and then ...
