We ended up leaving Hoi An for Hue at 1.30pm in the afternoon as there was no earlier bus. We arrived at roughly 5.30 in the evening and went directly to a nearby cheap hotel, so this day was spent in the hotel and a surrounding restaurant whilst we adjusted to our newly found surroundings.

From Hoi An it was only a four hour bus trip to Hue. We were dropped from the bus right near the street of our hotel, which was down an alley of hotels and eating places. I had booked a $10 room, but after being shown a $15 room with a balcony, we 'upgraded', and were very happy with our choice.
