      ... ones, with some fairly complicated train trips. But Joy will get to see the birthplace of her favourite boyfriend. Milan is only about 30 miles away, and we really could not pass by the chance to pay our respects to the great man.

      ... seen this spectacle of love, indulgence, companionship, status symbol show off, exercise reason, advisor with the shopping, mobile doggy bag (for those times when one doesn't like what one has ordered!), and of course pick up line for that girl (or guy) one has always fancied! Parma's dogs...... Nearly as important as Parma's violets!

      How different to the dogs of Ireland!

      ... de resistance...... La Scapiliara ....a drawing of Umber, amber greened and white lead on panel by no less than Leonardo da Vinci. She is stunning. Joy spent ages with her nose about 6 inches from this marvellous work studying the colour, the shapes, the brushstrokes and the beauty. An artists dream....to get so close to an old master with no alarms going off, no staff telling one to keep away and also being able to photograph it (no flash of course).

      ... towns too. The shops have Florence level prices, but there is little evidence of this sort of prosperity and the style that it can afford.

      Now we appreciate of course that we have only been here 48 hours. Many would say that we have no right to make such conclusions on such a short stay, and certainly these are only first impressions, not second thoughts. Parma has indeed much commend it. Some fantastic art in the galleries and churches, ...

      ... she was quite gob smacked when she saw the room. The brochure descibes it, accurately, as "elegant", and you can see from the photo, that it certainly appealed to both Liam and Sarah, though she is looking a little askance at his leering grin ....

      We had time for a look at the Cathedral of course, which has the most fantastic frescoes, including the world famous dome by Corregio, and the Baptistery, which is equally as good. ...
