After seeing photos of the Douro Valley, headed straight up the river. Spent the next 4 hours winding up and down narrow goat tracks, finally ending up in Lamego for the night. The woman of the old geusthouse (and bar, restaurant, minimercado, ... it's all in one) where I'll sleep tonight has a surprise for me... She has her daughter (age 8 -10, I have no idea) draw/paint in my stamp-book. It takes up the space of about 10 stamps, but I don't care because it just looks great between all those "boring" ...

Santiago train ramp is a hot topic. Every conversation about our walk to Santiago ends with questions or remarks about the derailed train. I learn a lot of train related Portuguese words. It is of course very sad what happened there

Eating in house has been one of the highlights for us. At our Qunita we have a full kitchen and we're so grateful for the refrigerator and ability to cook. After awhile you do get tired of restaurants. So we tracked down the local supermarket, Pinga Doce.

This grocery store was both familiar and foreign at the same time. We walked down an aisle with Mountain Dew and Coke ...

Amazingly the change has erased all my fears. It seems like if you drive aggressively you fit in better with the Portuguese traffic and you have fewer problems. And the Portuguese may be fast drivers, but they are also very good drivers who can maneuver quickly. So it all works out. ...
