The alarm clock beeped at 2:00 a.m. MAN, was that early! We had to catch a plane that left at 6:25 a.m. an hour and a half from where we are living. We gathered Jessica, and headed to Frankfurt-Hahn airport. It used to be an Army airport, but the US government gave it to the Germans some time ago, and now it's for commercial air flights. The carrier that flies out of there is RyanAir (www.ryanair.com)..and it was only 180 euro for Monica and me to fly round trip! YAY for cheap airfare! We lan...

... But Florence isn’t hard to navigate either. If you know the few big roads and the general direction of places, you can’t really get lost. I found a food market (since I love markets) and wandered around a while, and bought the beans that my mom had specifically requested, then went to meet Katy and Steve. We then went to the Duomo, where we took pictures and I lit candles for Granddaddy and my boss’s sister, then hung out and took in ...
Florence, Tuscany, Italy ab10Happy Thanksgiving!
I spent the morning taking an Italian exam!!! The afternoon was a little more fun, touring Palazzo Pitti with my Art History class.
It was a little strange spending it without everyone but my school put together a little gathering for us. A group of us dined on a typical American Thanksgiving at a local restaurant. We were served Butternut Squash soup with bread, Turkey ...

On the train from Riomaggiore to Florence saw some large marble processing plants on the stretch from Riomaggiore to Pisa which was really cool as we had just seen a doco on TV about marble mining in Italy a few weeks ago in Split.
Checked into Academy Hostel which is actually the first proper hostel I've seen in Italy, rather ...
Hi Everyone!
After an exhausting weekend in Brussels, I was in for yet another treat with cooking classes in Florence. Organized by my school, a group of us met with a chef for some lessons.
We were taught how to prepare typical Tuscan cuisine including Ribollita and Stuffed zucchini-flowers.
Everything was delicious & I look forward to trying these recipes at home!
I'll update you soon,

Florence, Tuscany, Italy amandawhitaker... lbs.! Dinner was a great experience thanks to Terrell & Amy... John ran this morning along the river and we then grabbed breakfast at our hotel and drove towards Sienna. Stopping in a little town called San Gimignano (think Filet Migon). It is one of the Italian hilltop Feudal towns that is surrounded by a wall and has remained much as it was during the 1300's. It is surrounded by grape & olive vineyards and you have to park outside of town and walk in thru the gates. John ...
Sienna, Tuscany, Italy jjpinard... to take some change out of my pocket but they still thought I had a knife on me or something. Then a guy asks me to open my bag and I knew what he wanted. I had a corkscrew in there and I totally had forgotten about it. He takes it, holds it up, and says to me "This if for beating." Haha If it wasn't so funny I would've been a little upset about losing the corkscrew. We get on the plane and I dive into the first three seats I see together. I slide into the window ...
