Just when we thought Venice was the most beautiful place we would visit in Italy, Varenna may have beaten it into second place. Neither of us can get our heads round the fact that we are actually seeing what's around us. The apartment is amazing and the views from the balcony alone are worth the trip. Claire has also befriended a blind cat so we keep having to think of excuses to go and see the lady so Claire can rub the cat.

Abby and I left for Bergamo early on Saturday morning (4 am from our house exactly). We took a taxi to the airport. Once at the airport, we sat there for over an hour with nothing to do because apparently nothing in the Valencia airport is open that early. We hopped on a Ryanair flight and we were off. ... were actually quite chaotic, people were dashing everywhere to get out of the rain and make it out of the city before the weather got extremely bad. Verdi but the most interesting fact I really liked was that for the first 10 years of his career in composing music all his operas were written while he was depressed from being over worked (he would write 2 operas per year which is a lot!) and the lost of his wife and 2 children. He wrote his last piece when he was 80 years old and it was so modern at the time that you would never guess such an old man wrote it. He became so famous ...
