... could be eleven waiters (this really happened), of course most of them aren’t doing anything. If something small needs to be done, everyone is trying to contribute (probably because there is finally something to do) which takes ages and results in sloppy work. For instance the packing of groceries in a supermarket, I once saw three guys doing it together. Everywhere you go you will see people standing still or doing work that someone else is doing or has done ...

... we took a bus to the domestic flights. On the way there was moment that confronted me with the reality of India. It was the first time in my (conscious) life that I saw a slum with my own eyes. It’s an image you don’t easily forget. It was a complete mess, tightly sealed off from the airport with fences and barbed wire. On the other side of the fence there were people sitting and watching us while we passed by.

... of them is in the peanut business - in fact we got the impression that all of the guys were serious movers and shakers, when we were in town for desert there was a steady stream of shopkeepers, drivers and wallahs coming up to shake hands and pay respects).

A late night ride back to Rajkot in the car, lunch the following day at the house again, and then we were off on our seperate ways - Ben and I back to Mumbai, Niven and Patrick to Delhi.

... A quick stop at the Ice Cream parlour on the way back to base, for Eggmans favourite - Butterscotch Ice Cream - and we were done with Jamnagar, short and sweet, but worth the stop off, if only for the Madras Hotels' culinary delights.

Onwards and eastwards, we lied in, missing the train the Rajkot, and found ourselves at Jamnagars State Bus Terminal. Flying through the Gujarati landscape on Highway 22 we soon arrived ...
