The rains came down but the sun came up....

... other trekkers while we waited for the rains to pass. Which they didn’t. Instead, the drum of raindrops on the roof of the shelter became heavier and heavier, until the 'passing shower’ had become a serious tropical deluge. Each time we thought it couldn’t possibly get any heavier, the intensity would manage to find another gear, and we were having to shout to be heard over the din. By now it was pretty crowded under the ...

We had to leave 500 MR (about €100) as a deposit, in case of any damage, AS IF. Having never ridden a motorized bike before I thought it might be best to take it for a quick spin around the car-park before Alice hopped on the back. Starting out facing straight across to the parked cars, I pulled ...

... spacious and cool, a swimming pool and breakfast included for RM160 - The Sea Park Condotel in Tanjung Aru. Apart from a walk for lunch we pretty much just hung out at the pool for the afternoon and spent a good few hours trying to sort out accommodation in Kuala Lumpua, boy there are just so many choices. We debated whether to have dinner here at the hotel or to head out to a night food market we had spotted during the day. The night food market won out ...

Waiting in Kota Kinabalu

... KK we had some showers and went for a dinner of roti and curry. Mmmm!

The next day we accidentally overslept so got up and went for pizza (yummy!). We wandered around the city in the afternoon and found a shopping centre with an arcade so David could play computer games. Then we went for pasta for dinner (it was on offer) which was really good. I had salmon for the first time in 7 months!

The next day we took the bus to Kinabalu National Park for our mountain climb.

Twice as Nice: Malaysia Travels

... made no sense. They kept lining us up for the flight, but the line never moved. Feeling lazy and frustrated we waited in our seats. An hour later, we apparently missed our flight and had to wait another two for the next one. We were not pleased. When we finally reached our tropical destination, it was pouring...ahh! Downtrodden, we took an airport taxi to a hotel from the guidebook, the AB Hotel. We found John and Amy sheltering from the rain when we arrived ...

Kota Kinabalu BORNEO!

... clear sunrise. With adrenaline running, we headed the 2 hrs to the top! It was an interesting climb up, in the dark, holding onto ropes to guide us up. It made it great fun to start with and had to scale up fairly steep Granite slopes, pulling ourselves up by ropes. About an hour into it, my bare hands (i unbelievably had no gloves) began to become very cold and the wind was howling. As we got about 500 metres from the top, the cold got worse, and ...

... a lot of people passed us on the way down who weren't able to make it - despite feeling exhausted I was determined not to miss getting to the summit - although there was a few times Stevie said that I should go home if I didn't feel up to it, but slowly I couldn't have made it all this way and not finish!. A lot of the walk included climbing along cliffs with ropes, the rope just seemed to go on forever! The journey to the summit was tough but there were some ...

... just the 4 humans in his lifetime. The farm wasn't all that to be honest so to amuse ourselves we were trying to get the crocs to actually do something other than sit there. so we ended up chucking apples to them, getting them to catch them, or avoid them, depending on how you look at it! Anyway, there's a bit of what we've been doing, obviously that's not everything, but hopefully there's enough to keep you interested. Hope you're all well, missing you all loads...not! x

... we went back to Ocean Seafood Restaurant dinner for another delicious food dinner which came to Rm 40 each, including Rm 8 for the pandan coconut. I am sure there are cheaper restaurants elsewhere as this place seems to cater for tourists. (Some months later, I read that Ocean Sea-food Restaurant has opened a branch in Kuala Lumpur, and fresh sea-food is flown there from Sabah.)
