... working at the hospital. I'll go in next week to the maternity ward, strictly for observation (which will be nice because i went there before and one woman took me under her wing--a woman who used to work in england and has now returned to ghana---she saw me again this thursday and said she'd be in the ward on tuesday when i visit). im hoping this'll prep me for working in a maternity clinic of some sort back in the US.<br><br> <br>
Legon, Ghana ellebee88... know exactly how fast word spreads in Ghana. But, not even five minutes after we got off the tro tro, two of the older boys that we teach were there to carry the boxes to the porch of Kwame’s house where we teach. <br>Most of the kids that were there on Thursday were the older ones. 10-15 years old abouts.<br>And then our 3 or so normal sleepers who are about four years old. <br>The boxes were full of childrens books, crayons, pens, pencils, paper, coloring books. Kim ...
Accra, Greater Accra, Ghana reneemarie... start reaching in the window at us, asking us where we need to go, offering to take us places, everything. We are trying to explain to the driver and to all these people that we are going to wait for a couple taxis behind us that have our friends. Of course we have to be the first ones there. So we get out and we're standing on this curb in a miles big swarm of shops, streets, dirt, people selling everything you could think of, literally the only 4 ...
Accra, Ghana hering... and fly screens will only work if there are no holes! But my room seems insect-free so far, even if the "bathroom" isn't... And I'm spending a lot of time over even the smallest scrape. In the heat and dust, and especially when playing around the children, I'm covered in grime within minutes and often can't wait until my cold shower. As a result of my presence in the house, my organisation has now paid for a plumber to fix the pipes so that the shower now works most days, even if ...
Accra, Ghana emmav... br>"This is the hardest stuff in the world to photograph. You need a three-hundred-and-sixty- degree lens, or something. You see it, and then you look down in the ground glass and it’s just nothing. As soon as you put a border on it, it’s gone."<br><br>I think as of right now, that same feeling is probably why I haven’t taken more than about 3 pictures. Hopefully I will have some soon. I’ll post them under the days they were taken, if I can remember when each is from.
Accra, Ghana ellebee88Akwaaba! (greeting in Twi pronounced ch-wee)<br><br>I have arrived safely to Accra! After two very long flights we arrived last night at around 8:30pm local time). So wonderful to be traveling with locals we were greeted at the airport by two of Diana's cousins, her brother in-law also on the trip, and their dear family friend Commander Adi. He was in the military with Diana's Dad Joseph for many years and they are dear dear friends ...
Accra, Ghana sherrypace... 1 cedi is roughly equal to $1.40 US). The local price is around 5 cedis. Although I had to pay a lot when I first arrived, I am starting to get into the habit of bartering for everything. I have learned that whatever price someone asks, you offer to pay half, and try not to pay much more than that. I am loving bartering, it makes shopping so much more fun. <br> After arriving at the campus, I met up with the group for a tour of U of G. While we got ...
Legon, Ghana derekgray... Andrew, taught me this awesome rhythm that I fell in love with, and Adam and Uncle had never heard it before. They said that the rhythm doesn’t exist to their knowledge. Anyway, we had a 3 hour lesson in the morning, then a break for lunch, and then another hour and a half in the afternoon. <br><br>My days are kind of mixed up, but one of the days, Uncle and I did some Takai dancing. Then we went hiking to the top of the hill where he lives. Beautiful ...
Medie, Accra, Ghana neilis... only they wait at the stops until the van is full. After I got my money exchanged, she took me to a cell phone store to get my phone unlocked (I still love you, Lily). It cost me 10 cedi to have them unlock it! That's like......USD$7. For a cheap Jew in Ghana, that's a lot of money. Anyway, they said it would take them 2 hours to fix it, so we went to the supermarket to buy vegetables. I also got some soap to wash my clothes with and Silk Soymilk!!! Vanilla flavor ...
