Rome - Summer 2002

I travelled throughout Italy with my mother and stepfather in Summer 2002. We travelled with ABC Tours, which arranged for all of our transportation as well as several guided tours and some of our meals. The first stop on our trip was Rome. The highlights of our trip were the Roman Forum, the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain.

Good Time

The Hotel beverly Hills is great if you plan on spending alot of time around Rome. It is in an ok location and the rooms are neat and spacious. Not the classiest or nicest hotel I've been to but it was great for a quick trip to Rome!

Worst hotel ever

First off....this hotel couldnt get any worse. Not only was it far but the service couldnt get any worse. I book this hotel way ahead of time and after i arrive in rome and take the cab there...they claim to have no rooms available and made up some stupid excuse that there was none available. Meanwhile there were people waiting in the lobby probably waiting to be checked in. The service was bad, I hate to mention any names but Francesco or whatever had some type of attitude at the front desk and tried to blow me off and then sent me to jolly hotel for the night and claimed i could return anytime. So i had to drag my luggage out of their tiny lobby and hop into a cab and relocate. What a pain...dont ever book this hotel. Bad service and lack of courtesy. I'd rather stay at the Termini station with the bums than ever have to stay there. Better off at the Jolly hotel at Via Veneto.

This was a nice hotel in a fun neighborhood. A grocery store is a few blocks away, shopping too as well as a good bar and pizzeria within the block. The cab rides to other parts of Rome were about 10 euro.

I agree with all of the above who loved it - in August it is a beatiful walk through the villa borghese to the centre, and once you are there, everything is within walking distance anyway. We loved I Butteri restaurant on Via Regina Margherita, although we wouldn't recommend it for vegitarians! There is even a chinese restaurant next door, which is great if you don't want to walk any more when you get back. Breakfast sets you up for the rest of the day, and once you ahve bought a small bottle of water, you can get refills all over the city from the water fountains - and water never tasted better than when it came cold and sweet from those fountains!

Good Value and Comfortable- Recommended

A comfortable hotel with good facilities. The Beverly Hills is a little way from the centre of things, but for a few euros we made good use of tram routes 3 and 19 which travel to the Vatican and Colosseum passing just a few yards from the hotel. A walk through the neighbouring Villa Borghese park is a pleasant way of reaching the Spanish Steps and Via Veneto etc.

Our well decorated, clean room had a kingsize double bed, TV, bathroom with large shower, bidet etc and a balcony with table and chairs. The main road outside was a bit noisy in the rush hour, but it was facinating watching the antics of the drivers as they carried out complicated u-turns across four or five lanes of traffic.

We felt that the room price which included a big buffet breakfast was good value, but the restaurant meals were a bit pricy, so we'd advise visiting one of the local Trattoria(s), like 'La Balestra' just round the corner, for evening meals instead.

Overall we had an excellent time staying at the Beverly Hills and recommend it to others. I have stayed in much more expensive hotels in Rome when travelling on business and this hotel compares very well.

This hotel is, at most, a three star - even by European standards. The room was noisy and smelly. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Italian Nightmare

This was our first trip to Italy. Our experience with the Grand Hotel Beverly Hills was less than desirable. It was a nightmare. We paid for our Hotels in full, prior to our trip. Rome was our first destination.

Needless to say when we arrived at the Grand Hotel Beverly Hills, we were informed that there was a SLIGHT problem... allthough they had our reservation and a confirmation... they did not have a room for us. They were neither apologetic nor helpful. They suggested a hotel down the block from the stazione (train station) which we refused. They put us up in another hotel which was less than equal to the price we paid for the Beverly Hills. Their internet site states that this hotel "Espouses the true values of Italian Hospitality". NOT TRUE. THEIR RESPONSE TO THEIR ERROR WAS LESS THAN HOSPITABLE. IT WAS DOWNRIGHT RUDE.

A pleasant experience

We stayed here for three nights in late August and were delighted with this hotel. the staff were very helpful in every respect. It is located right on the bus line so there were no major problems getting to the sights. I would stay here again without any second thoughts.

Grand Beverly Hills - No Problem!

The title of this review sums up the attitude of the wonderful staff at the GBH. - everything we wanted was - No Problem! This was very much a last minute trip and we had little choice of hotels available. We would have chosen a more central location - but when we arrived were delighted with our Hotel. Our flight out was a nightmare due to the good old French Traffic Control Staff at Paris CDG. When we eventually arrived reception staff at GHB were so concerned for us. We were just glad to be there and in Rome. Our whole stay in Rome was a dream come true and whenever we returned to the Hotel the lovely people who work there made us feel we were returning to our little haven. Rooms are well appointed, nice big bed for 2, shower & bath (not always the case in Italy). Barman was so friendly, like being in your local pub.

Breakfast was fine to set you up for the day. Although Hotel is a little away from the main antiquities etc, taxis are swift and reasonably priced (particularly compared with what we pay at home in UK!). Nice district around the Hotel full of charming friendly Italians, not all tourists. In the evening, go over to Trastevere and eat at a trattoria with the locals - often you may be the only non-Italians in the restaurant - we were - it's a struggle if your Italian is limited like mine, but all part of the fun. On our last day, again the majorly helpful reception staff confirmed our flight for us, booked our car for the airport and when asked what time to check out replied 'What time would you like to leave your room - it's no problem!' Late check out given without being requested - how often does that happen? To the Directors of the Hotel - look after your staff - they are your biggest asset! Pete & Renee, UK

Charming hotel

This was our first trip to Europe and we enjoyed our stay at this small, quaint hotel. It was in a lovely neighborhood, away from the tourist areas (a short taxi ride away) and made us feel like we were returning home after a long day of sight-seeing. We found the staff to be helpful and friendly since we spoke no Italian. Our room was very clean and was well taken care of everyday. We will definitely go back again.
