Today I woke up with a terrible migraine! My parents and Mimi had gone out to breakfast so I went downstairs and ate a crescent. When they got back we decided to go to the Van Gough museum! The train we were trying to take never ended up coming... So we took a different option but ended there none the less. In the museum square, there was a little market set up and it was a beautiful day ...

... we had some sweets and sandwiches and then headed to the entertainment section of town. That's where we went to Bulldogs, a famous "coffee shop" in Amsterdam. We went in and it was so weird to see them selling marijuana like it was nothing! They literally had fishbowls full of weed at the counter! I'm sitting on a plane at the moment about to fly across the world. Initially, I didn't want college to end just yet. These last 4 years have been more than I could have ever asked for. It was a time to grow as a person and make my own decisions. It's also probably the only time I ...

... bought and house and a flock of goats, and have been farming ever since. They knew I was a WWOOFer and asked me about my experience; what worked and what didn't for me as a wandering worker. I was also able to give them some advice on the subject and they told me they were working on renovating an old chicken coop to make into a sort of loft apartment for extra workers. If I find a link to their website I'll post it up here.

Hand Sown Farm and the first days of work

... set up my tent in the side of the yard and got ready for bed. The fun didn't really begin until the following morning, though.

HSF is owned by a couple, Megan and Andrew, who are in their early-mid thirties. Her two apprentices, Rachael and Will, live in permanent tents on-site that were constructed by Andrew (I have no pictures now, but will include some once I take them). Both apprentices are quite passionate about organic farming and on top of working ...
