There's more in Harrisonburg than just Mattanutten

... you are really interested in a timeshare, don't waste your time; not even for the promised $100, which is given to you in "Massanutten Bucks" at the end. The representative that drove us around and showed us every inch of the place was nice and personable, but the heavy handed approach began when we returned to the main building and was taken into a room to meet another representative. This lady was pushy and once she knew that she was NOT going to make a sale, she became quite ...

Great Trip to Colca Canyon

We are back safe and sound from our trip to Arequipa and the Colca Canyon. I wanted to tell you what a wonderful travel agency were Inka Fest Travel. They were PERFECT! They took very good care of us - especially after I got sick while hiking out of the canyon! That was a rough day for me. The rest of the trip was great! They are really nice people, too...

Thanks for everything, it was a great trip!

Drunkeness and Frat Boys

Um....yeah. Red wine, pinot noir, is my new friend. Got rowdy with Aaron and Luca. Kelly and Ed made an appearance as well. Went to the UVA vs William and Mary because we got free tickets from a gentleman named Davies. He had walked in on us smoking and could not have been any cooler. And even though UVA lost we had fun anyway. Lots of ...

Day 4

... bring my 11ft steel head spinning rod. Ted borrows a fly-rod from the shop (he took fly lessons a week ago). We are the only people on the river - the conditions suck so normal people wait till they don't suck anymore. The river's generally about 25-30 ft wide and milky brown (normally emerald green when the rain goes away). It's fed from 3 natural springs in the mountains and is very nutrient rich - hence the abundance of healthy ...

Work Site in Jaeger

... in walls and reinforced a concrete foundation and built a block pier for the main floor beam. Tomorrow we'll bring you pictures from the other work site and more notes from kids. You can be very proud of them - they worked very hard today!!

Take me home country roads....

... So far we have done 381km today... we are about to pull off the interstate to treat the kids to McDonalds for lunch as they have been so good. During the long, long drive through WV we saw a few deer grazing by the side of the interstate, quite unworried by the roar of traffic going past. A fun game to pass the time while in a U.S.A restaurant: See how many times you can get the waitress to say 'You're Welcome' by saying 'Thank-You' to her. Finally ...

Day 3

... through WV. interesting stuff, but got board so ended up cutting it short and went north to check out the Football hall of fame...but it was closed. Just around the corner was a beautiful garden. Check out the video of the JFK memorial. Pretty stuff. Short entry, but not much else to say. Tomorrow Celeveland. -cmart

Getting ready...

... at hand: I have spent way too much time and money getting ready for this trip. In fact, I have spent all the time I should have spent writing one of my papers making preparations. The time I've spent imagining packing, actually packing, repacking, searching routes and maps online, etc. probably adds up to more time than the trip itself (this includes, of course, creating and writing this travel log...). But ...

My flight leaves Pittsburgh and my travels begin..

Hi everyone, as all of you know, I've been planning for this trip for a long time, and the time has actually come for me to actually take the trip that I've only talked about for the past 8 months. My flight leaves from Pittsburgh on February 4, 2006 at 12:30pm and I will be arriving in Pisa on February 5, 2006 around 8:30am, from which I will then travel to Florence. In ...
