It was chilly overnight at 6,806 ft altitude. Down to 30 degrees or less. We were prepared with enclosed sleeping bags and thermarests in our tent. Breakfast was cereal and smores, but the chocolate was frozen so as soon as we placed our hot, gooey marshmallow on the smore it froze too. <br><br>We packed up the campsite and headed to Grand Prismatic hot spring. ... freezing and the spring boiling. <br><br>We visited the Mammoth Hot Springs and hot springs that formed amazing travertine terraces. Finishing with the mud pots we felt that we had successfully covered the four "countries" of Yellowstone and their geological features. <br><br>Whilst at Yellowstone we saw, Squirrel, chipmunks, mule deer, Elk, Pronghorn, Moose, Bison, Geese, Bald Eagle, Osprey, Ravens&#8230; but no bears.

... an impressive sight when it blew boiling water over 100 feet in the air. After that we drove to Fairy Falls car park and started out on our walk. The walk in was really nice and when we arrived at Fairy Falls we saw some little creatures running around. I think they were ground squirrels or marmots. Very cute to watch. They are formed where mineral-laden hot water from deep beneath the earth's crust rises to the surface and builds cascading terraces of stone as it deposits the minerals. The sculpting of the terraces began thousands of years ago and still continues as thousands of gallons of water well up and deposit large amounts of minerals daily.
