2 Days in Yellowstone

... store to get coffee for Niko, Katrin, and ourselves. I got a white chocolate caramel cappuccino for Katrin and me. They were delicious! I also picked up some Jiffy Pop popcorn for later that night. When we arrived back at camp, we had breakfast together then headed towards Old Faithful, where we sat on benches circled around the geyser with hundreds and hundreds of other tourists sitting in anticipation for this famous American landmark to erupt. And Old ...

Exploring Yellowstone

It was chilly overnight at 6,806 ft altitude. Down to 30 degrees or less. We were prepared with enclosed sleeping bags and thermarests in our tent. Breakfast was cereal and smores, but the chocolate was frozen so as soon as we placed our hot, gooey marshmallow on the smore it froze too.

We packed up the campsite and headed to Grand Prismatic hot spring. As we drove through Yellowstone, just north of Old Faithful the earth ...

LAST DAY AT YELLOWSTONE

... freezing and the spring boiling.

We visited the Mammoth Hot Springs and hot springs that formed amazing travertine terraces. Finishing with the mud pots we felt that we had successfully covered the four "countries" of Yellowstone and their geological features.

Whilst at Yellowstone we saw, Squirrel, chipmunks, mule deer, Elk, Pronghorn, Moose, Bison, Geese, Bald Eagle, Osprey, Ravens… but no bears.

Beauty Surrounds - Yellowstone National Park

... an impressive sight when it blew boiling water over 100 feet in the air. After that we drove to Fairy Falls car park and started out on our walk. The walk in was really nice and when we arrived at Fairy Falls we saw some little creatures running around. I think they were ground squirrels or marmots. Very cute to watch. After seeing the falls we walked on to Imperial Geyser which was even more special than Old Faithful. It was in a turquiose blue thermal lake ...

Na ceste za Niagarskymi vodopadmi

... sa dnes vybrali.
Cesta cez New York nam trvala vyse hodiny a potom to uz bolo len na zapad alebo na sever. Z New Yorku sme cez Hudson River skocili do New Jersey a potom to Pensilvanie. A z Pensilvanie znova na sever do New York state. Pensilvania a New Jersey vyzera uplne ako stredne Slovensko. Vsade kopce a lesy. Smerom na sever je menej kopcov, ale lesy vsade ...

Real Life Starts Now

... I started doing this when I was 15. On the LIRR, I asked the people around me what their advice was for a soon to be high school graduate. One said work hard and play later, one said play hard and work later. I think they were both flattered to be asked. I think it was good advice on both accounts. My housemate Casey's boyfriend has a second interview with Apple. We're figuring out our lives! Its exciting. =)

... of the same, passing through Belfast and Warsaw (if we had stayed on our original route, we would have gone through Yorkshire!), until we arrived at Darien Lakes State Park late afternoon. Quite expensive for a state park at nearly $23, but at least the showers were clean and hot again.

Miles travelled: 147

Total miles travelled: 13012

Days on road: 120

States visited: 26

National Parks visited: 19

No Hail, the Gang is all here

... before we go, complete with communion. I can't recall one time when we did this that we didn't have some other campers hear our singing and come and join us. We drove the rest of the way to Darien Lake afterwards. It is only a couple of hours and we couldn't get in until 2:00, so we took our time. There is a 50's diner in Avon, about halfway, so we always stop there. They make great onion rings. After ...

Day 63 - What An Amazing Day!

... afternoon and so the crowds were not too great. The springs are a really weird sight. They are formed where mineral-laden hot water from deep beneath the earth's crust rises to the surface and builds cascading terraces of stone as it deposits the minerals. The sculpting of the terraces began thousands of years ago and still continues as thousands of gallons of water well up and deposit large amounts of minerals daily. After walking around the lower terraces ...

... of the driveway at 9:00 p.m. We drive until around midnight and pulled off at the Junius Ponds rest area on the Thruway - just before the first Rochester exit. All four kids were asleep in the car and Sami and I were getting a little tired.
