      Great Value

We needed a place to stay near the airport and the Mall of America. This place was convenient to both, and offered a free shuttle from the airport for my son. The lobby was very nice, and the desk clerks helpful. Rooms were comfortable, although one of our rooms had a burned out light bulb in the bathroom. Management was unable to change it, so they put a lamp in the bathroom, which seemed rather strange. Breakfast (included) was decent, and included hot and cold foods.

We had hoped to leave around 7:00, and hit the road at 7:45 a.m. ET (not bad for us!). We drove 3 cars (yes, 3!) over to Merrillville to meet both sets of grandparents at Cracker Barrel for breakfast, and to drop off our dog, Jolie, who will be spending the next couple of weeks with Grandpa & Grandma H. From there we said our good-byes, and …

This year's trip to Minnesota begins on Leah's 17th birthday. Since I figured out we have been coming to Cass Lake since 2005, that means we've been doing this for 10 years, and we started this tradition when Leah was only seven! (Chloe was five, Seth was 11, and Jared was 13.)

Since we downsized vehicles over the past year, and have people coming and going and different times, we are again taking two vehicles. We (Tom, Linda, Leah & Chloe) will be in the CRV, and Seth ...

We had a quick 10 minute talk and we went down onto a stage like area and bought some of their honey popcorn, it was beautiful. Chamberlain was our last comfort stop. We overlooked the Missouri River and walked down a "look out for poisonous snakes" pathway. Today the weather is the mildest all holiday and is really nice. The country ...

... that showed the least amount of tread. I went through the brakes and replaced the rear service brake shoe linings. The rest of the brake system looked good. I went around and checked every nut and bolt I could get to under the car to make sure they were tight. I changed the heavy oils in the transmission, differential and the overdrive and greased the running gear.

It is now about 6 weeks to our departure and I ...

The last day's drive from Coeur d'Alene, ID to Portland is a beautiful trip, but I was in too much of a hurry to make many stops. You can see Mt. Hood from about 100 miles away, but there aren't any really good places ...
