... sun shining onto the Andermatt Valley below. However, once over the ridge of the winding section it became a different matter, as the views were gone and the winding road replaced by a long, steep roman esque road, stretching out for miles and miles towards the summit. The effect of such a long straight road after the windy opening gave the illusion that it was almost flat, but in reality it ...

I guess I've gotten so used to living in places where you're told not to trust people you don't know, I've just grown to assume that this is the only way society functions. But no. There is a world where parents can still instruct their children to say hello to strangers. This world is here in the Alps. Day 279 2 hrs, 4 kms There are 5 more towns to go, that's a lot to squeeze in in a couple of hours, but I'm going to give it a try. The first is Essen, where I pass a fairly large industrial area. Here I'm reminded that Liechtenstein actually has a very diverse economy--it's not just about banking. In fact, this country has one of the ...

... if I can follow or blaze a trail through the woods myself. Good thing I got some food, as I'd be running out of energy without it. Finally after what feels like hours and hours, I reach Plaken. Like Triesenburg, it's mostly just large, modern houses--no historical core here. There is a nice view of the valley--with clear skies this time. Kind of an isolated ...

It's time to continue on. Just down the road is my 4th Liechtenstein town: Schaan which is actually the largest "city" in the country. Not a lot to see here, other than a nice stone Anglo-style church--and a billboard with a Bible verse, and graffiti sprayed over it that says "STOP MISIONERUNE" I take it that means "stop missionarying us!".
