Worst Hotel Ever

A travel blog entry by worldtraveler20

This hotel was the worst hotel we have ever stayed at. The stay itself was pleasant enough but was sullied by the $300
surcharge we discovered on the following month's credit card statement.
Upon questioning, we were told that it was a "deep cleaning surcharge"
and we would need to speak with the manager Salem Tohm to resolve the

Since a gig I wanted to go to here was cancelled a couple of weeks ago, I had an internet hunt to see if anything was worth viewing, and ended up writing down a venue to look for and see if they still had tickets. I asked the receptionist to recommend a good half a day walk and the direction of the street I needed. I thought I'd ...

Getting There

... yard that beast outta there. BOOM! clothes everywhere. Leanne's clothes. Someone (me) had forgotten to redo the zipper after changing their shirt. I humbly gather her things and we head upstairs.

Settled in, we went out walking. Always the best way to check out a new city in my humble opinion. We stumbled upon what seems like the hub of entertainment around here, St Catherine's Street (i think). ...

A Friendly Airport, Almost Like Old Times

... that time was the plane full, and so we had to wait until the next day to try again. And flying was fun! The stewardesses (no stewards back then) were all young women under 30, thin, and were very kind and respectful to travelers, especially to young people flying without their parents. (Back then you would never have heard: "Ask that person to help you put your bag in the overhead bin." They ...

Historical Traveler Reviews BEST WESTERN Ville Marie Hotel & Suite Montreal

Would not stay at this hotel again.

    from anonymous

I decided to stay at the Best Western Ville Marie on Peel Street for 7 days awhile ago. To say the least, I was very disappointed in the way they handled my room situation. I paid very good money for a very nice room and for three days straight the ceiling in my room leaked. I had the maintenance men come up and one of them assured me after the first day that it would not leak. He claimed it was coming from the air conditioning. I spoke with the manager and was told that compensation would be no problem. On the last day when I mentioned compensation again, the desk staff gave me the card of their manager and told me to call them to discuss as they had no managerial staff on duty and could not assist me (this also occurred during the weekend that the ceiling leaked and leaked). When I got home and wrote the hotel, the manager told me that the people above me had used the bathtub as a cooler for their drinks and that he could not justify any compensation since he gave me another room (which stunk of Cigarettes) only for the remaining two nights that was left of my vacation!! I have written to Best Western's main office and sent them this manager's letter and as of the date of this e-mail to you all, I have received no response and still NO COMPENSATION. After being treated so badly and paying top money for a hotel room, I will NEVER stay here again.

    Very nice

My family and I stayed at the Best Western Ville-Marie Hotel last weekend. We loved it! The first impression of the lobby was WOW!! Everything was so amazing. It`s an upper class hotel for reasonable prices. The room was huge and well decorated. The staff was great. This will be the only hotel we stay in when we visit Montreal.

If you are looking for Peace and Relaxation. STAY AWAY from it

First problem. It's a school dorm. They rent room to McGIll University students for the welcome week, as well as the introductory seminars. I am sure you can figure the rest.

I did not have any luck with the late night staff. Also, sales manager, as well as upper managers are unable to solve immediate basic concerns. On my third night, the hotel was evacuated and we were left out in the cold, in the street for about six hours. Yes, we got some coffe. That's all. I have to flight the next day with only 2 hours of sleep. SORRY was all we got as return.

    Excellent

Loved this hotel! I have never experienced such great service. When I got to the hotel at 1 PM, the front desk called housekeeping to clean my room fast so that I wouldn't have to wait for the usual 3 PM check-in time. The room was great. It looked like they had just done some renovations, everything looked new. The staff was wonderfull. They really went out of their way for us. I would definetely recommend this hotel to anyone and everyone !!

    What a great Discovery

    from Hotelexpert

This is the best place. I went there because my Hotel where I use to go regulary wanted me to stay 2 nights and I wanted only one. It was like a long and busy week end. I was a regular customer at that place for 5 years. I called the Manoir Ville Marie and the nice lady told me to come right away.My first reaction was that it was on St Catherine St, but in the east part of Montreal, not downtown but not too far finely. I was supposed to stay over only one night but I stayed 4. It's a nice Auberge (Inn) very clean, the Ownwers are a couple and so nice you want to hug them. The front desk attendant is the funiest man and he knows Montreal, very polite, always asking if we need something and he even gave me a ride downtown when his shift was over. If you see him just ask him to talk about his ugly dog (i'm still laughing). His name is Ren?, not the dog, the clerk i mean. Every thing was perfect except maybe the breakfast a bit to much bread , no cereals or cheese but they will ajust cause they are open only for one year. I will be back

    Loved the service

Stayed at the Best Western Ville-Marie in November 2003. Amazing service from the entire staff. You really get your money's worth at this hotel. Prices are not cheap but very much worth the comfort and attention that you receive. Highly recommend it to anyone wanting 5 star service at a reasonable rate.

    My stay at Best Western

    from anonymous

I've stayed for 1 night in the fall of 2003 in standard room with queen size bed. My first impression was how small everything is - the lobby, elevator, room. The room had a strong desinfectant (like chlorine) smell and I didn't find the bathtub that clean. I think the hotel is overpriced, for me, I would not stay there again. The good side is location - close to everywhere downtown. But again, there are plenty of hotels downtown.

    Nowhere near a 4 star

    from maverick656

The writer from Toronto (April 03) was exactly right. If you want a 2 star hotel at a 4 star price, this is a good choice. Otherwise, you would be advised to either pay less and get what you pay for, or pay more, and get a nicer hotel. There are large holes in the wall near the elevator buttons on each floor (no explanation or "Under Construction" sign). The hallways are very unimpressive. I had to take a Smoking room, which as advertised smelled heavily. To their credit, they put in some kind of ion machine that removed the odor. And the room was decent and quiet, which was good. The staff at the front desk was pretty unhelpful -- one woman at reception didn't even look up from her typing when I tried asking her for a map and directions (very French).

    Not a 4 star hotel

    from fredangi

I visited Montreal and stayed at the hotel for two nights early April. I was very disappointed with its service. There is bell boy/door man at the door but never once opens the door for customers. The lobby was small and the gentleman at the check in counter is not friendly. I was fortunate to have a lady when I checked in who has offered to upgrade us from 2 double beds to 2 queen beds. The elevators are really run down and can only accommodate four people. We had a non-smoking room and the room size is good. The bathroom is clean and very basic but it has ventilation. The continental breakfast which was included only for that week was very simple--croisants, danish, muffins and coffee/tea. There's no one to check the supply like napkins, jam, tongs, lids, etc. It seems like the hotel is under staff to provide service. The gym is equipped with treadmills, bikes and weights. However, it lacks security if you work out by yourself since the room is locked after you enter. You need to push a green button to get out. Overall, I'm not impressed with the hotel especially when it is rated 4 star. I've stayed across the street at Omni which is rated 5-star and the service is indeed superb. I would not recommend this hotel to my friends unless major improvements are made to the service and the property itself.

Pretty Nice For A Best Western!

    from anonymous

When I went to Montreal, I went with a group so I had no choice with what hotel I was going to visit. I usually stay at like Hyatt's, Westin's, and those types of hotels so I wasn't expecting much from the Best Western. When I first entered the lobby, I was impressed, it was small, but nicer than i thought! I was very surprised! I then got my keys and visited my floor. Only one elevator was working because they were renovating the others so that was a problem considering the size of our group, but we managed. The hallways were horrible!! They were not very inviting at all! This made me wonder about my room. When i entered the room however, I was shocked at the size. It was huge! Including the bathroom! They were both extremely large which was a big plus!! The rooms however were basic. 2 beds, 2 chairs and a counter where the TV was. All in all, I would recommend this hotel. I probably won't visit this hotel again, but if i had no choice, i wouldn't have a problem with it.
