... heading back up Cancun. Let me tell you about this water. It was so refreshing and clean. It had this smell that I can't describe, but it was delicious. After cooling off and grabbing a bite to eat we were in the van on the way to our all-inclusive hotel.

The Great Parnassus was a wonderful place for us to stay because of the activities available for children. However, we did not use of the services. On one side of the hotel is ...

Racing the cold front

We pulled out of Hart Ranch in South Dakota a couple of days early because of an anticipated cold front. We also changed the route we had planned on taking. Rather than going to Scotts Bluff, Nebraska we headed to Colorado. Strange as it may seem the weather promised to be better in the Denver area....

After about 400 miles, which is a ...

... to get out of the cab and in to my nice, airconditioned hotel room. Oops.. they couldnt actually turn on the air until my official check in time of 11:00, but they felt sorry for me and let me go lay down. A couple hours of sleep, some Pepto, and I'm good as new, and I venture out to Pratunam market. Now, this area is not for amateur shoppers...this is as hard core, pushing, shoving, bargaining as it gets. Pratunam Wholesale ...

... languages, many ecosystems and even more adventure in the next 3 months, and I cannot wait. We have a diverse and talented group of gap-year students from across the States and Canada, and I expect that it's gonna be a rockstar team. Look out for more blogs in the near future, and don't forget to check out the trip map, photos, and videos so that you can follow along on our crazy journey..

Enjoy the ride!

Getting to Denver

... requesting that he be present for an interview on the 16th at 10 a.m. This is a very good opportunity for Janis, so he had to take it. I am not sure what we will do in Denver, but once again, we will figure it out. Janis leaves tomorrow afternoon to SFO and returns back to Denver on the 17th. Hopefully when he gets back, we can make our way towards Mt. Rushmore.

Shout Out #38 - Returning Home

... with insider information. A spy. Realtor Voice was surprising and bizarre but I had a catalog of WASPy stereotypes in my mental database. Created with a hefty dose of cynicism, I was trying to remain as disconnected from that database as possible. Familiarity would come quickly enough and I wanted to maintain an observer's perspective. The subway was an entirely new experience. I'd never been on an American subway. In comparison to the trains in Sydney, Bangkok, and London ...

Back in the Fort

Finally back to my house. Bill was at DIA to meet me and brought me home. The weather was rainy (much worse than what I'd seen in Alaska) and cold. We stopped for breakfast and then to my house. Bill had to be to work by 10:30 so he left shortly after dropping me off. It took the cats a while to greet me, although Turtle was the first and ...

This, My Latest Blog

... commenced a year or so of traveling in the US and in Europe and maybe some other places, too. The plan is to work along the way in cool places and to take breaks in between. Since I will be working in cool places, I am going to consider both working and nonworking times as travel. The plan is to work for the summer in North Carolina, vacation, work for 6 months in the UK, vacation, and then work in North Carolina again. Then who knows.

Thanks for reading this, my (latest) blog!

Leaving

So it starts. I am off to Costa Rica in about 6 hours and don't really know how to feel. I am both very sad at leaving my close friends and family behind but also extremely excited to get to do something in my life that very few get the chance to enjoy. I am going to miss everyone very ...

Back home, for now

... albatros, sally lightfoot crabs, frigate birds, and of course everyones favorite the blue footed boobies. We were in luck too because it was mating season so we got to see the male blue footed boobie waddling around proudly lifting his little legs high in the air in an attempt to attract females. How this worked, I wasn't quite sure, because I know if I would have ever tried this on any of our females I would be a lonely man. But at least the females ...
