Trudye stayed here on Apr 15, 2013 during their trip titled: Trudye's Great Adventure.
Yosemite Village, then back to civilisation in SF
Hi, Lucy here.
We are currently sat in our hotel in San Francisco! But I am letting Chris tell you all about that in a sec once I have written about the rest of yesterday.
After we blogged yesterday we headed to the shuttle to go to mirror lake. We had to follow the road quite a way, and we passed a funny looking steel tank drum …
San Francisco
Rented bikes at Blazing Saddles, down at Fisherman's Wharf. Very friendly people with many helpful suggestions. San Francisco has many steep roads though. Even if you try to circumvent those, you will find yourself long gradual climbs often. It is a nice way to see the city nevertheless.
We met with Laura Andranoco for Lunch at the …
A Little Riesling in San Francisco
I have wanted to go to San Francisco for years. Since Mike and I got married we knew at some point we would live in Monterey, so we decided to wait. Since moving within two hours from the City on the Bay, our plans to visit have gotten delayed for one reason or another. Finally, Mike and I had booked a room on his long Veterans Day Weekend. There …

Good accommodations - right at the heart of the Fisherman's Wharf

We booked this through Hotwire.com and expected a lot from the description (that kept the hotel's name secret). It turned out, we could have booked this hotel pretty much on any other site against the same conditions. Had we done so, we would have discovered that parking costs USD40 per night. Parking is expensive in SF, but USD40 with a room rate below USD100 felt a little out of kilter. The room itself was good, nicely furnished with good materials. Location is also convenient and staff is friendly. Nothing spectacular, just good middle of the road hotel.

Historical Traveler Reviews BEST WESTERN PLUS Tuscan Inn at Fisherman's Wharf San Francisco
Been twice
Have now stayed at the Tuscan two straight summers. You simply can't beat the location-----just blocks from everything at the Wharf. Bus outside the door will take you to Pac Bell Park and other sites. This summer we weren't as comfortable as the air conditioning stunk. Asked to have it checked out----and they never did.Only disappointment. We go back despite that.
Noisy! But a great location
This place is ideally located within walking distance of the warf, cable car turn-around, tourist shops, Ripleys believe it or not and the Alcatraz boat. Also close to Burger King, Subway, McDonalds and a grocery store. Starbucks is connected to the right of the building.
This was important because we were traveling with 3 children. Now about the Hotel. We could see the ocean from our room, but I would have glady traded for the view of the block wall! We had the family suite. They only have two of them and they can only be booked by direct hotel line..not the 800 #. Our price was $200.00 for a two room,1 bath place.
The big downfall for us that our room was on the busy street. We could see the ocean but could hear ALL the traffic ALL night long. The bus stop was across the street to boot. They really should put in double paned windows for these rooms or at least tell you when you book it that you will hear traffic. I was awaken all night long by the bus starting and stopping. The hotel did strive to compete with the bigger chains. Complimentary magazines at the desk, newspaper delivered to your door and complimentary beer and wine every evening. Valet parking to all guests at $15.00 per night. There is a Sheraton and Radisson next to this hotel too. I would have rather had two rooms that faced the garden atrium. Top things that my kids enjoyed was Alcatraz, cable car, Ripleys, G.G. bridge and the crookedest street in the world.
biggest bust was Ghirardelli's square.....its just shops and an ice cream store. We were really turned off by all the bums that bothered you. There were many wierd people doing strange things begging for money. Parts of the streets were really stinky and dirty. Best clam chowder was at Pier Market on Pier 39. It is cold and windy...be prepared
Disappointing view
We were put in a room on the 2nd floor with a terrible view, basically of a brick wall. While there is a pretty courtyard in the middle of this hotel, remember that half of the rooms do not even see it! We were unfortunate enough to get one...Also, don't turn the A/C on; it gave my wife and I a terrible sore throat. I think the filter needed to be changed in a big way.The high-quality service was nice enough to make up for some of these problems, however.
Great Hotel!
We arrived very late to the hotel due to our flight. We were greeted by name upon arrival, with the reservations exactly as booked. The room was very clean, decorated very nicely and quiet. The hotel location is excellent. The only negative was that they only had one working elevator but it never held us up long at all. All the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We didn't stay long enough to eat there but would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in the Wharf area in San Francisco.
Decent suite, OK price, great location
We stayed in the Tuscan Inn for the weekend. Got an one bedroom suite for $180. Parking is $10 extra for the day. Valvet only.Summary: We liked our suite. Deco is simple. Got two windows to the courtyard. No outside noise at all. Clean. Shower only, no tub. Got VCR and tape deck in the suite but did not try that. A bit small, but good enough for two adults and two very young babies. Hotel staffs were friendly, fast and knowledgable.Location: Great location. Two blocks away from the Wharf and Pier 39. One block away from cable car terminal. One block away from supermarket, bookstore, and other shopping. 10 minutes driving distance to Golden Gate Bridge, same for Chinatown and Italian area.In general, Tuscan Inn is reasonably priced for San Francisco. Service is good. In a great location (for tourist). Offer the normal hotel stuffs, definitely not fancy but good. I would recommend staying at the Tuscan Inn.
Aloha
Great hotel... Location was excellent. Easywalking distance to Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39,Cable Car turnaround, Ghiradelli. Staff wasvery helpful. Would definately stay here again.
Wonderful Hotel
Stayed ther April 2003The Tuscan Inn was a wonderful option for our vacation. If Fisherman Wharf is your destination the location is great. It's 2 to 3 blocks from The Wharf. A Safeway store is 1 block away (for in room snacks, a picnic to go, or ??). Budget car rental is 1 block away. Note: Overnight parking is $23.00. The staff is exceptionally willing to help make your stay comfortable. Everything from suggesting dining options, to booking a tour, to giving directions to sightseeing locations. (Maybe they are trying to win another award). Leaving later than check out? They have a place you may leave luggage if you have to check out and aren't ready to leave yet. Just tip a few dollars to valet. The room is very nice, maybe a little smaller than some, but definately adequate. I recommend the garden side if possible. We will definately stay at the Tuscan Inn again and would highly recommend it. We paid $100.00 a night, which was a managers special. If you call the Best Western reservation number or hotel directly always ask for "The Best Available Rate" or for any Manager's Specials).
Wonderful Hotel - Excellent Staff
We stayed at the Tuscan Inn 10/18-21/02 on a short vacation to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. We had a king deluxe room with an interior view of the courtyard. The room was a little small compared to other king deluxe rooms in other hotels, but since it was just the two of us, that was not a problem. The room was always clean and comfortable. The hotel staff was helpful in every way possible. The adjoining restaurant, Cafe Pescatore, was excellent, and we ate there twice. We enjoyed the biscotti, coffee, tea and hot chocolate in the mornings and the wine reception in the evening. The hotel staff went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful . . . and it was! We give our highest recommendation to the Tuscan Inn.
Tuscan Inn is just OK
I stayed at the Best Western Tuscan Inn near Fisherman's Wharf for 2 nights recently. THe first night I was in room 420, which turned out to be the noisiest hotel room I ever stayed in - it was right on the street and the window was not soundproof. I heard conversations and traffic all night long from the street.
Next day I asked for a quieter room and they cheerfully and immediately moved me to another room, on the courtyard, which was much quieter.
Why didn't they put me in this room to begin with? It did not appear that they were fully booked when I arrived.
Otherwise, the furnishings and decor were tasteful and high quality, the complementary wine and coffee were great.
A good nights sleep
A great location, pleasant service, and clean, pretty rooms. With a comfy fireplace sitting area in the hotel entrance, and a fantastic restaurant, what more could you need in this wonderful city?! Car rentals are right around the block, and airport shuttles are available.
