And she just happened to be the daughter of a friend of Dr Tom Krummel, our fellow rider. To cross paths on a road in Oklahoma was an amazing coincidence.

The sign for Elkhart showed us why we had been feeling so hot – 100F, and we set out to look for a shady place to rest. There are no cafes so we ended up at the super market where the ridiculously friendly checkout lady said we could camp in her garden! Day 2
... into the Oklahoma Panhandle where any viable campground would have been over 50 miles out of our route, so here we are at the Holiday Inn. Cecil called ahead and said it would be $45 a night, which I thought, "That's pretty good I guess." We get to the hotel after stopping by Taco Bell. Cecil goes in the check-in while I scarf down my 7-layer burrito and fresco soft taco in the truck.
When we first step in the hotel my senses tell me, "Clean, fresh, new, Yay!" ...
A Tough, Tough Ride
... it was, or was close to, their worst ride ever. I agree! Penny did exceptionally well. She doesn't like cross winds at the best of times and this one was a true monster. Total concentration for more than five hours. She responded to every gust and took it all in good spirits. We arrive covered in dust and fatigued. ...
Ready to leave
... if I'd quick do a claim in Garden City, KS, only 2 hours away. I said yes as they were short, so instead of writing up more claims I went off to Garden City.
Back at the RV I spent the evening writing up claims and hooking up. When I couldn’t get the hitch to work a neighbor came down; not the old idiot who’d been next to me earlier, but someone I’d said hi to before. He helped me get battened down. Thank goodness for nice ...
