Wednesday, Day Two

A travel blog entry by travel2gether on Jul 16, 2014

Today was a longer driving day.

Iowa was very green, not like last year when it was so dry. Corn and soybeans as far as the eye could see.

The Interstate 90 through Minnesota is terrible (very rough)! Remembered that from last year's trip, AFTER we decided to take this route this year. Where are our federal dollars at work?? May return to Ohio a different way.

Long driving day tomorrow.....

... evening! They were all so excited about our trip and the fact we'd come to their club, they gave us pens, torches, American flags and two VFW caps. We were also treated to a Vietnam marine vet singing the Marine hymn to us- very special indeed! What an evening we ...

The Corn Palace is a large multi-story colorful building made completely of corn! Corncobs were stacked as bricks, and corn stalks were side by side upright as another layer of building material. Todd was ...

... In fact it's so bad that i actually had to look up the names of the presidents while writing this!

Mount Rushmore was actually pretty fun and interesting, even for a non Yankee doodle such as myself. We learned that 90% of the sculpture was created with dynamite, the work began in a time of American prosperity before the beginning of world war 2 and they do not accept the "National Park Pass" that Les bought for $80 before we set out. Things that ...

... before, but just wanted an inexpensive place to sleep. The room had a strange smell that we were not sure if the previous hotel guest had a cat or if it was Jared or Dawson’s stinky feet or if it was just a stale smelling hotel room. At any rate we tried to get to sleep so we could wake up early and get back on the road again.
