After 3 months of hard work at Rockhampton the day came to move on north and St Lawrence was the next port of call. A few people on the way told us about this nice free caravan park close to the water. After about 2 hour drive we came to St Lawrence and found a large campground close to a very small community. The campground was well looked after and most visitors where friendly and helpful. We walked with the dogs the area around the grounds and to the township of St ...

Blowouts!!

Well, what a day!! We left Yeppoon about mid morning to set off for Mackay to camp  in a national Park north of there called Cape Hillsborough. About 20 km out of Rockhampton we heard a pop and I noticed the van was leaning. We pulled over to discover we'd had a blowout and the rubber had literally peeled off. A family from Caves stopped and helped to change it and we followed them ...

Thunderstorm aftermath - 3 hours sleep

Hey, so shortly after writing the random last entry the 'safe' service station was struck by lightening and the power blew up ! it also broke the generator so that was fun experience to go through ! The rain was still too heavy to drive through so we sat off (in the dark) for a couple of hours then decided to drive again. Dont really know what the plan was but we figured there would be no point going to a caravan site since it was getting ...

roadside camping

We have got the knack of camping from a car. It is hot and dry, but there are loads of good birds here! Roadsoide camping, although free, is noisy. Gonna have a couple of nights in the Great Sandy National Park near Fraser Island, to compare. Then we are heading for Bribie Island to see Simon's cousin. We have realised that Australia is really, really big!

Mission Beach

Ok Depart Greyhound and here we are Mission Beach, my planning had let me down on the last stop, so i'd put me back into this time!! We were greated at the bus stop by a bus from the hostel, which took us straight to the resort, Av' that!!! Mission beach is a cool place, but it's just beaches, quite a few beaches, but still just beaches, some with croc's in the water, others with sharks.(We stayed out of the ...

Day #43: First stop of the day Gin Gin

... our 500 dollar bond. We were a little mad but there was nothing we could have really done it happens! Here are two signs I saw on our way up the coast..... "Looking for a better future?" "How often can you pass up an opportunity like this?" These two signs must have been telling me something...something along the lines of...Ashleigh you should stay in Australia longer!! Sara and I both agree. Our next stop was Rockhampton.

Come out to the coast, we'll get together...

Up early to be checked out the hostel by 930am. After showers and breakfast we load up the car before saying goodbye to all the guys from the group. Chances are we'll bump into a few of them again as we head up the coasts but it's the nature of travelling that you get to know some good people pretty quickly and then likely never see them again. Then it's off on the road out of Rainbow Beach with Murtaugh doing just fine thankfully. We head inland past ...

big trip, little time, little airlie, gateway town

what a trip! i had to catch a taxi to the bus terminal cause it was too far from my hostel and the bus departed for airlie beach at 725 am, making stops all over the place, the main stop being townsville, gateway to magnetic island, but i decided to skip it since it wasn't a top priority for me to see, i wanted more time for the goodies! so we arrived at airlie beach around 530pm... now that was a really long bus ride... very boring. the driver put on a cheesy ...

Town of 1770 and Lady Musgrave Island

15th March 2007 Town of 1770, Australia We leave Bundaburg in the morning and head up to Agnes Water and the Town of 1770. As we travel the scenery has changed and we travel by hundreds of sugar cane fields. Agnes Water is the last beach in Queensland that you can surf and swim in so we spend the afternoon on the beach and Daniel hires a Body Board. We have booked a trip tomorrow to ...

Fraser Island

For those not in the know, Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world at a whopping 240m height and growing as thousands of tons of sand are deposited on the eastern side shore every week. 75-Mile Beach forms the main vehicular route that only 4x4's can navigate and is subject to Police speed traps. We also found it acts as the runway for light aircraft when we opted for a scenic and bumpy flight over the lush ...
