      Reflection

A travel blog entry by philji on Dec 22, 2014

Well just under a week to go and time for a little reflection. What makes this place special? It is crowded, noisy and full of scenes of great suffering at times.... but it is also full of a sense of community, people coming together and laughing and crying together, it is full of a sense of freedom where people can come and practice a spiritual path and ...

      Weekenders

A travel blog entry by philji on Dec 22, 2014

Sat. Today was a wondrous day, up early and breakfast on the go...Cappucino and banana muffin! We headed for the White Monastery as we had been told Chökyi Nyima, our teacher was back. We didn't know what time he was arriving so we arrived early and sat in on the puja taking place there, sitting with 300 monks chanting the prayers to Guru Rinpoche to remove outer, inner and secret obstacles was a very powerful experience. Then outside in the sunshine waiting for Rinpoche, eventually ...

      First weekend in Swansea

A travel blog entry by mandyhebert on Dec 22, 2014

... I had forgotten at home. After our walk, we went back to the dragon hotel and had a drink. By this time it was about 10pm; Hayley finished her coffee and had to leave. I still had about half a beer left so I walked up to the bar to ask if I could take my drink to my room (I had a Heineken to remind me of home, since that's what my dad always drinks). The bartender answered my question, then asks very excitedly, "are you American?!" So I told him where I was from. ...

... me up and taking me out for dinner. Also, it's Black Friday here in the UK. Apparently its not the same as in the US/Canada with the shopping and all that, so I'm really anxious to check it out! OH, my hotel in Swansea is awesome by the way. I did have to awkwardly walk to it with my 130+ lbs of luggage though. Seriously, I could've taken someone to europe for the amount of luggage I brought. Thank god I've been doing crossfit and training 6 ...

      On and on

A travel blog entry by philji on Dec 19, 2014

... we celebrated still being alive by buying a Guru Rinpoche Thanka ( hand painted and embroidery surround). Unusual sight from our hotel window today, looking out we noticed the pitiful sight of a group of 5 raggedly dressed Nepalis all with dark glasses, white sticks and hands on each others shoulders in a row all heading to the stupa...... Then suddenly Jess said look at the guy at the back of the group, texting on his phone!!!!! Must be Braille text said ...
