... a ceremony for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It was after the ceremonies that decided we could not take anymore sadness. Do not get me wrong, Arlington Cemetery is a historically significant place and the best way to honor our fighting dead. But, for me, it was a sad place. A place reserved for those with much more honor and valor than I. I had a strange feeling that I did ...

... joins the Potomac at Harpers Ferry. The Shenandoah Valley is hilly and scenic with low mountains in view almost everywhere with the Massanutten Range running down its middle for a stretch and no very large cities.

Shenandoah is one of the places in America I love in America, full of country roads and hill and farm scenery, small towns with historic houses and little churches where you can travel back roads and get away from the modern prefab convenience stores and fast ...

Walked today up to Boot Hill, quite a large cemetery overlooking the town. The most interesting part was a Confederate area containing the unmarked graves of 870 soldiers. Staunton escaped destruction during the Civil War, allegedly due it's concentration of high-end brothels. Next stop was the Wilson Woodrow presidential museum, where ...
