... 8217;s home. Sure glad we didn’t have to walk up that hill.

The property was willed to Thomas Jefferson by his father, and when Thomas married his wife, Martha, they built a one-room home which they lived in until after the birth of their first child. Thomas had plans for Monticello, which was built in sections, but it was a work in progress from 1768 - 1808. He put so many details into the home which were both unique and ingenious. ...

We were up early-ish but got a later start than most in our hotel. Gates at the venue opened at 0600 and I was afraid everyone would be lined up to get in. So we waited. We left Charlottesville at 0900, arriving to our turn-off at 1000, but cops had it blocked. So we ended up going about 5 miles past the turn and back-tracking our way back to the line. ...

... did the tour . This was the President who introduced income tax! But he did a lot for the country and was a popular president. After that we headed back to Charlottesville to visit Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson, third President of the country. A very clever man, he spoke seven languages, designed the beautiful house and a few other interesting innovations. The gardens still had tulips and the vegetable garden huge and varied. I can safely say I know a lot ...

... live on Sunday so the highway was filled with cars and one old dear who had had a prang was driving along at 40mph and slowing traffic for at least 50 miles.
(Editor: yet again we are stuck in a traffic jam on the way to an airport - a la Lisbon - I'll never be given a hard time about how early I leave for an airport again!)

It was a lovely visit, a whirlwind visit, once upon a time in America....

        ... beetles.
There are three reasons we booked this place. 1.It's called the
English inn. 2. Its the last night of comfort. We get the car and a
tent. So camping from now on. And 3, it has a pool. Not just any
pool. The biggest pool in Charlottesville, 4FT at its deepest and 3
FT at its shallowest. So of course, first things first. Drop the
bags and go for a swim. We have been waiting for this for ages ...
