We were up early-ish but got a later start than most in our hotel. Gates at the venue opened at 0600 and I was afraid everyone would be lined up to get in. So we waited. We left Charlottesville at 0900, arriving to our turn-off at 1000, but cops had it blocked. So we ended up going about 5 miles past the turn and back-tracking our way back to the line. ...

After that we headed back to Charlottesville to visit Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson, third President of the country. ... live on Sunday so the highway was filled with cars and one old dear who had had a prang was driving along at 40mph and slowing traffic for at least 50 miles.
(Editor: yet again we are stuck in a traffic jam on the way to an airport - a la Lisbon - I'll never be given a hard time about how early I leave for an airport again!)
It was a lovely visit, a whirlwind visit, once upon a time in America....
There are three reasons we booked this place. 1.It's called the
English inn. 2. Its the last night of comfort. We get the car and a
tent. So camping from now on. And 3, it has a pool. Not just any
pool. The biggest pool in Charlottesville, 4FT at its deepest and 3 ½
FT at its shallowest. So of course, first things first. Drop the
bags and go for a swim. We have been waiting for this for ages ...
