These people definitely don’t like the Russian and with good cause, although there is still quite a large ethnic Russian population living here. These islands were isolated during that time, from 1944 till 1989. No-one was allowed to visit here, the info didn’t say if the Islanders could visit the mainland or not.         ... is a lot smaller than I expected and it doesn't take long for me to thoroughly explore and move on. It's still early in day- now what to do? Most of the landscape is gently rolling farmlands and forests so not too much to see driving.

        As we went to Kaunas, having stopped for fuel, and having chatted to both Andrei and Dimitri, it looked like were going to have fun.
        It rained really hard while we stopped at the gas station, and we decided it probably was best we visited during the summer.

        ... etc, are shut, but we've had a good day wandering about. Took a Furnicular railway up to a HUGE church which has a large roof giving a good view across the city. Walked to a market on the other side of (one of) the rivers. Hunted for gluten free bread, but had to make do with Corm Thins. Rice cakes are on sale in abundance, even in the smaller shops. Corn thins only in a specialist shop. Later this afternoon we tried a bakery ...

        Day trip to Kaunas today with Jonathan. We met up with a fellow VTer and Kaunas native, Remigia. Remigia was not only knowledable about Kaunas, but I would think knew every legend of the city. She was brilliant. We saw so much, heard so much, and walked so far. A very enjoyable day indeed.
