Vroom vroom, or... how I learned to love salt

It's in the middle of nowhere, and it's like nowhere else on earth. Miles and miles of salt crystals, as far as the eye can see. When it isn't being blinded. Your eye, that is.

The lovely sign describes how evaporation... blah blah blah.

I admit I had visions of trying to hit redline in 5th gear to "see what she'll do" but... I didn't.

A tale of two cities

West Wendover is in Nevada.

Wendover is in Utah.

Really now, are there two states that could be more different? And they are neighbors?

What are the odds? Oh, to figure that you'd better make sure you're on the Nevada side of the border. :-)

Jeriann's Car Trip Thoughts

... br>
Then we go a couple more hours and stop for lunch – usually at a McDonald’s PlayLand. (David printed out a big list of PlayLands along our route.) Then a couple more hours and another break. Brady likes to follow along with the stretch routine that my personal trainer (i.e. my mother-in-law, Jackie) created for our car trip before we left. Brady also LOVES ...

Off to a great start

... are we going to get there?" – Oh! No! How will we last all day for almost a week in the car if he is ready to be done after only 10 minutes! Nevertheless he later got into the spirit of things and made it through the day with only minimal fuss.

A few of the day highlights:
1) At about 10:15 Jeriann suddenly says we need to stop the car. Jeriann forgot to put the food on the engine when we stopped for breakfast. We pull off the ...

Wells Nevada

Today we drove through 4 states, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and Nevada. Driving through Nevada was very desolate. We arrived at our campsite after six hours. We then ate dinner and got groceries. Then we went to a park to play. -Adam Mom beat our butts in tetherball :( :(

I'm too tired for aftershocks (Nevada)

After a long trip through both Montana and Nevada, we arrived at a city called Wells, recomended to us as a place to stay before continuing on toward Reno by some outstanding young lad working at Subway (eat frrresh!). Along the way we drove through the sierras of Nevada and peaked at an elevation of about 2000m. The drive was remarkably uninteresting (Saskatchewan-like) except the terrain was barren ...

Desert Driving

We left the KOA in Vegas about 10am and headed up to Highway 93 which goes straight through the Great Basin Desert in Nevada. The craggy brown mountains on either side of the highway, and the scrubby land with stunted cabbage-tree type plants are actually quite pleasant on the eyes, but it is indeed a desert. On the way we saw a couple of foxes running across the road, at least we think they were foxes - small, golden coloured and fast. We pretty ...

Day 4 - Cascade Idaho to Wells Nevada

When we packed our mules, it was 8degC and sunny. The road we were on was perfect. Nice and curvy with mountains and a roaring river on the side. This road took us from 5000 ft to 8700ft and 2degC. Brrrrrrrr. Did we mention snow and wind? It only got to a high of 10C today. This is your fresh air inspection report from Southern Idaho and Northern Nevada.

Salt Lake City

Dean: We decided to stop off in Salt Lake City in order to break up the travel from Yellowstone to San Francisco, spending just over a day in the city that is the center of the Mormon religion (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints). We checked out the main city sights, including the Mormon temple square, which included a guided tour of some of the main Mormon buildings. It was all very interesting but not for Alex and I (with us both being quite opinionated on religion).

I Do This Everyday...

This is my first go-around with Travelpod. This 'big trip' will be from my home to my local lunch/breakfast hangout; a laid-back roadhouse diner called The Oaks located on a river in Ogden Canyon, Utah. The story will be posted as captions to each photo, so click through the photo links to read it. Click on the first photo just above here, then maximize that screen. Click "next" at your right below the photo and story caption to proceed.
