... 6500 feet. This is home to the Smokey Bear National Park (I assume where Smokey got his start). The only Smokey we saw had multiple bullet holes for his contribution to "Stop Forest Fires". Our docent at the Space Hall of Fame had advised us to see the Three Rivers Petroglyph Park, so we took a long detour to see that. We had a lot of fun taking pictures, and you will see the results below ...

... and enjoyed some delicious home made stew with hot corn bread.

After a delicious and unexpected lunch, we toured the rest of the town and saw the old Courthouse where Billy killed two deputies and made good his escape from Lincoln. There are plaques marking the very spots where the men fell and even a bullet hole in the wall.

We left Lincoln and our unexpected find to continue to Socorro - now just a little behind schedule but bewitched by the real Wild ...

Average cost of accommo first week works out to $51 per night, aiming to broadly match San Antonio total outgoings so need to keep camping somewhat! Made our way to higher elevation (8400ft, 2560m above sea level) near a winter ski resort in the hope of some cool air and a better night's sleep. It worked a treat and the fresh mountain air was a welcome relief! Bessie didn't love it as much as we did and the high elevation caused a blown coolant hose (the noise we heard wasn't birds chirping after all). ... to gamble and we took care of Quinn. Johan saw Chef Irvine coming our way and we stopped him to ask if we could take a photo with him. He was really nice, and spent about 5 minutes talking to us. When the kids joined us again their excited faces from earlier turned green with envy, they now looked like the little aliens from Roswell. Quite the sight to see! The parents again one upped the “aliens” – go parents go!!!
