In Hondo, near Ruidoso, there is an Iris Farm and we were able to see the acres of various types of flowers still viable in early June along with Hummingbird feeders.

We left Artesia at 55 degrees expecting to get into cooler temps as we gained elevation to Cloudcroft. As we climbed the 9000ft above sea level, we entered into the Lincoln National Forest. ... 6500 feet. This is home to the Smokey Bear National Park (I assume where Smokey got his start). The only Smokey we saw had multiple bullet holes for his contribution to "Stop Forest Fires". Our docent at the Space Hall of Fame had advised us to see the Three Rivers Petroglyph Park, so we took a long detour to see that.
