    Really cute hotel

Possibly the smallest hotel room I've stayed in along my Route 66 journey, but by far my favourite. Decorated with Route 66 facts and novelty memorabilia. The quaint buildings make me feel like I'm back in the 1960s, and the Cadillac outside is the icing on the cake.

The Best Western Springfield served up a basic breakfast. Mark tucked into his sausage patties and scrambled eggs, I decided to stick to the toast!!

We successfully managed to get onto Route 66 quite quickly and made our way towards the state line into Oklahoma State.

We stopped to look around a little antiques store called …

Visiting our friends Dionne, Andy and Squirt has been the highlight of our trip. We headed south out of St. Louis on the I-44 before getting off and exploring some rural routes in the Ozarks.

The rain was persistent and visibility was limited but the drive was still beautiful.

As we got closer the GPS took us off the rural route and onto some smaller roads. I ...

... to endure all that lives, breathes, and happens on the little lines on that map. Most of it has been wondrously amazing and filled with a spirit that transcends miles above what I could ever accomplish. The lines on that beloved map are also getting just a bit shorter every day. Just a bit shorter, but I'm doing my best.

What carries me is the notion that I may in some way be helping people. That notion ...

... make it through this journey and still be together at the end, we'd have a long happy marriage! We continued our journey through the Mid-West and stumbled into a town called Cuba. We stopped for gas (a 5 litre Ford Mustang costs the equivalent of £40 to fill up, which is less than my 1.4 Astra..... TAKES THE ****!!!). Anyway, we got chatting to a cashier who was in the middle of some banter with a customer (we assumed a regular as they were on ...

... no more!!!!! We stopped at a few little places along the way, but we are all disappointed in the so called "highlights" of Route 66! Mostly they are old servos or motels with broken signs etc and maybe a shop selling junk momentos! Over dinner at our stop in Springfield - yep that's Simpson country - we all agreed that we might take a few detours along the way and visit some other landmarks instead of sticking rigidly to the ...
