    Today, Monday 17th August, we drove to Welland Canal Lock 3.

    Bit of history...
    Construction began in 1824, completed 1830. The current canal was built 1913 and restored 1932. It starts at Lake Ontario and finishes at Lake Erie. It was built partly to bypass Niagara Falls.     ... Geri and Rich treated us to a ride in the orange VW combie (from the 60-70's) around the Niagara Falls area where I think more people took photos of us than the falls! We were treated too all you can eat fish and chips at Cheers, that's right Cheers, an every day and night was filled with laughter! Too soon the day arrived to take Bek to the airport.     ... actually get to an island which is right at the top of the falls and look over the edge, no wonder people can fall in, there is hardly any fence to stop them.
    Definitely a highlight of the trip, and well worth the 12 hour train journey from new York. It took as all day, to just walk both the Canadian side, and the US side, which shows the scale of the falls.

    ... and Aiden have their K2 1000 mt B final. They fight so hard and its a great race. They finish 5th against all those hulking Europeans. Go kiwis go. :) we are definitely losing our voices...only squeaks are coming out. Liz, one of the mums (and coach from the Gisborne club) was hoarse on day 1!!!!
