Holy guacamole! We just ran through Alabama! Right now, we are at 352 miles, which doesn't exactly land us in a town, but it does land us right past the Alabama / Tennessee border. This area and the past 20-30 miles have special meaning to me, because they are where my Granny and Daddy Joe (my father's parents) grew up and met.

Initially the day was dark and damp but the clouds blew over and the sunshine came out. That made it very pleasant to sit in the bridge. It heats up quite nicely when the sun is out. Bart made a big batch of ginger and banana pancakes so we ate breakfast on the bridge. I know what he will be snacking on for the next few days.

... there were long stretches were we did not pass much in the way of civilization until we approached Decatur, Alabama. It got a little crazy at this point because of increased traffic, a low railroad bridge and some barge traffic. If you aren't aware, Decatur is a huge barge port.
