... and recognize the islands, the Sisters, Chambers, Horseshoe, and Strawberries. We drove on, checked out the lighthouse, got lost on some very back road, found the cemetery, decided we'd love camping in the park. We aren't up for hiking, Russ didn't want to bike, the golf course interested him, but no time for that today. We found ourselves on a road heading out and decided ...

... where we saw our first fall colors. Personally I think I'd like this better than Devil's Lake for a summer outing. Checked out Little Norway, so disappointed its closed, it is in a gorgeous valley. We were also disappointed in the lack of trolls along trollway in Mt Horeb, though those that are there are very cute. We had pizza at the Grumpy Troll. Nice staff, good food, recommended. Long day ...

... Better than I had imagined.

Then on to Devil's Lake. This was fun. We didn't do any hiking, so maybe missed some of the better views. Again not too crowded, perfect day to enjoy on the water. The woman at the store made us lunch which we took out on a rowboat. We, well Russ, rowed around for an hour or two. We looked for fish or turtles, saw none. Enjoyed our ...

... walk so were on our own. Not too many people and we often were watching the birds alone. It was fun to see the two young birds born there at the center. (I'll look for their names, but I can't find them). Another pair is nesting. After walking through the rest of the habitats we came to the Whooping Cranes. This may be the only time I see one. I sat in awe for an hour or more enjoying them. I was so happy to be there. If ...
