New York May 2008 - personal experience

New York May 2008 - personal experience. I was all burnt out from work. My life has been a chaos the last few years. I have been working way too much and adding the stress of divorce, responsibility of my two wonderful kids and making a couple of wrong choices with women, and I was so burnt out. Furthermore, I had to change work place since my former colleagues did not approve me and did all they could to "freeze me out", making working there impossible. I was very competent as always, but th...

The Adventure Begins

Hello all! I'm starting my big European adventure now, during a quick stopover in New York City, New York. I was only in the city for a day, so I didn't get to do much. I'll be back for a few more days at the end of my adventure, so I'll be able to do much more then.

We spent the morning walking around the city, which was fairly easy, since my travel companions were well versed in how the city is laid out. We ended up at the Circle Line, where we rode the Beast out to the Statue of Li...

Oh how I love the Big Apple!

We found our hotel fairly easy. We stayed at the Best Western President's hotel. We parked outside and took in our luggage and checked in. We were told the parking garage was about 2 blocks away and we set off to find it. Because of the one way streets we actually had to drive right through Times Square! We found the parking garage only to be told that it was full. Uh-oh now we were in trouble! We continued on down the street and found the next parking garage about another 2 blocks away. They...

New York, New York

An early start and two flights later weīre finally really on our way. New York, Big Apple, the City that Never Sleeps. First impressions - itīs big, the people look like New Yorkers, lots of lights, doesnīt feel like New York for some reason. Oh, and itīs cold! Wendys for dinner, Time Square Bagels for breakfast, Dim Sims for lunch and round it all off with TGI Fridays for dinner. Did the Downtown Loop on Gray Lineīs bus tour. Great way to see the sights without freezing. 4 different guides, ...

Worth the money

from A TripAdvisor Member
Recently stayed 2 nights at the hotel. $89.00 per night is not a bad price for this location. Room was small but very clean as well as the bathroom. Only complaint was water pipes making noise in the morning(good alarm clock). Would stay here again.

Pleasantly suprised

Just returned from a trip to NYC and stayed at the Best Western President because of the price. The rooms were clean, quiet,no street noise. The bed was very comfortable, bathrooms small but clean. The staff were not too friendly, but got us anything we needed. The location couldn't have been more centrally located. I'd stay there again in a minute.

Great Stay

Just returned from a stay, July 11, 2003, at the Best Western President. The room was very large. The room was a mini-suite. We only paid $124.00 (AAA Rate, but they did not ask to see our card). We had one double bed and a sleeper sofa, two telephones and two televisions.

Bathroom was not spacious but very nice. Bathroom had marble vanity and tiles and a whirlpool tub. The room had two a/c units and was very cold, there was no street noise at all. The room was very clean and the staff was friendly. Room came with a coffee pot, ironing board and iron and a refrigerator. The only complaint would be small elevators. If you are not expecting a Hilton or Hyatt luxury then you will be very satisfied. Parking is one block away and costs $24.00 per 24 hour period.

Beware of Best Western President

Stayed at this hotel in December 2002. Room was extremely hot and their was no cold water. Room was very small and requested a queen size bed and got a small double. The maid took our wine glasses that we had brought along thinking that they belonged to the hotel bar. Was a real hassle to get them replaced and then did not get our's back and the ones they gave us were not as good. The maid also took the bottle of wine that was in the ice bucket. We complained about that and got another bottle but not the same kind. Upon complaining bitterly they said they would give us a "suite" for regular room price on next visit. Went back in February 2003 for our "suite" and a promised bottle of wine upon arrival. This was no suite, but merely a queen size bed (which was OK) and a couch in a normal size hotel room and no cooking or refrigerator as most suites have. The bottle of wine was not present and when we asked for it it was a real hassle to get it. The bathroom had very poor lighting above the sink and noticed water dripping from the ceiling exhaust fan. When I checked it, about a gallon of water fell from it onto the floor--a real hazard. The towel bar fell off the wall on top of everything else. The shower door fit very poorly and water drained out onto the floor. NEVER AGAIN will I stay or recommend this hotel to anyone.....

OK for a short stay

We chose the President because of it's proximity to Times Square and Broadway and at a fast clip they could inded be reached in about 45 seconds. Great location. They also had a deal for three nights stay which was our time in the City. The staff are great - friendly and efficient but the hotel itself is looking a bit down at the heel now and needs some refurbishment in the general areas and indeed the rooms themselves. We upgraded to a junior suite as the room we had booked was rather small. You could have got a cat in it but no swinging! If you want to be very near all the action and get a double room for under $100 per night then this is for you. regards Harry Dunn

Great Hotel

from Missy40
In the past, I have made the mistake of staying at hotels in New York City solely based on price. So when I booked a room at the President for $86.00 a night I was a bit weary. I ended up staying one week there and was pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and unexpected size of the room. The bathroom was great with a big, comfortable bath tub. I would recomend this hotel to anyone who wants to be in a fun, fast-paced location but needs an affordable price as well.

Best Western President Hotel 48th St

My wife and I just got back from a short trip to NYC.We stayed here because of the price. With AAA discount the base price was $89.00 +/-. With tax it came to $108 +/-. This and location are the reasons to say here. It is right around the corner from TKTS and in the heart of Time Square. As another reviewer noted the rooms are small, but not as tiny as the Parimount and the mattress was soft. Howevert the room was clean and nicely maintained. I would definitely stay there again, if the price were in the same range.

Great Place for the Price

Great Hotel..This hotel was Great. Stayed there in Jan. I had excellent Service not a probelm to report. The staff was nice and friendly. The room was clean and the bathroom looked like it was just remodeled. This hotel is perfect with its great location. The price is great...Overall I will stay there again without second thought

Small But Adequate

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed in a Deluxe Queen room which was small but mostly warm and comfortable, except for the mattress which was very soft. Ideally located for shopping and business needs, everything I needed was within easy access. The staff was not very friendly but everyone was helpful and efficient. I had no problems and would definitely stay there again.

Grateful they were there

from jas044
After having a rotten experience, however brief, at the New York Inn, I was lucky to find a room at the Best Western President. I ended up spending more than I had planned, but the hotel was very very nice. The rooms are small but quite good and i even had a small balcony that looked down upon part of the Theatre District.

But more than the room, I can't thank them enough for being there when i needed them.
