Phuket is one of the better known islands off the West coast of Thailand for its' beaches and the tourist industry they attract. Largely wiped out by the Tsunami in 2004, you wouldn't know it now as everything has been rebuilt by corporate tourism. This was not initially a destination as we hoped to avoid the areas that had been completely Westernized, but fate intervened with an offer we couldn't refuse. A Thai real estate publication Laura was reading advertised a "nearly completed" five st...
Phuket, Thailand itsgotimePhuket - April 5th to 14th Late departure as someone who had checked his luggage didn't show for the flight. We waited while his luggage was removed from the hold. I'd rather wait than have a bomb on board. It was rush seats. Seats are not assigned on the Boarding Pass. We had registered as Express Boarding ($1) extra so we got the front row. I've never been in the front row of a plane before. 20 min. cab ride to the Best Western Supelei. It's a new hotel not even on the map. Nice hotel on a ...

Phuket, Thailand jo_in_thailand... their lunch from him.
We finally headed back to the boat in our mini van at 4pm arriving at 5pm. Worn out from a big day of walking, we headed straight up to the Oasis bar where we had a drink and watched the sail out. They always get a huge crowd up around the deck to watch so Armando always needs to get some help in.
I had trouble with the internet while I was writing this and came back a few hours later and have found that it was saved. What a relief. Bye from Phuket.
Phuket, Thailand stephgraeme... choppy and
getting the boat in close and us out of it was more of a challenge
but Mark's experience we knew we would be ok as we gently nudged the
rocks as we stepped one by one from the boat and into another cave.
This time in the cave we could walk and we walked to our first HONG
and wow how beautiful, we stayed here for 20 minutes taking in the
serenity and the beauty whilst watching the bats that arrived on
Mark's cue and the birds circling. As we left Mark ...

Ton sai, Thailand carlost... for ages exchanging stories on where we'd been since we last saw each other. We must have almost passed each other in various countries so many times - our routes were fairly similar! What a small world! The next day we hired a kayak and set off to explore some of the closer islands. We found a gorgeous secluded beach and hung out there for a while, swimming and lounging around, then set off again to circle some of the huge ...
Tonsai, Thailand willndebs... hewn table on the beach with a beer and watching people boulder on a cliff face that overhung the water not 20 meters away from me. The bar was 20 meters behind me, so getting another beer was a very small task, and considering they were only about 20 baht (less than $1 US), I would have gone through much more of an ordeal to get additional beers. As I was sitting in this exact position one day, I heard a loud, startling sound that I had never heard before. The sound ...
