After our trip to Solingen and Cologne between Christmas and New Years we returned to Bielefeld where we spent our time exploring what the area had to offer.
A couple of the highlights included;
- Our first snow for the year, including the first snowball fight!
- Sparrenburg (Bielefeld) Castle which was originally built in the 13th century.

... very low key affair with a family breakfast of bread rolls, cheese, meats and jams. We all then went to a small zoo in Bielefeld that houses German animals including bears, wolves, foxes, lynx, beavers and and deer. We had a pleasant morning exploring the zoo before returning home where a feast of cakes and other sweets kindly cooked by Oma (grandmother in German, this is Petra mother) awaited us.
... of Frankfurt on Friday evening landing in Townsville around Sunday lunchtime. The funeral is Monday morning and he then flies out of Townsville Monday afternoon and arriving back in Bielefeld Tuesday evening in time to spend Christmas eve with the family. the drive to Berlin to a few hours and provided a good opportunity for Nathan
to get use to driving on the right side of the road again even if he was not
willing to go quite as fast as some of the other cars on the autobahn. We sat on a comfortable 125-130kph ...
So funny, on the drive over I came very close to the town where my surname comes from, in the Detmold / Bielefeld region. But I didn't visit that particular village again, it had been quite a long drive as it was and that would have cost me an extra hour.
Bad Pyrmont... a resort town for senior citizens. I was about 30 years below the average age in that town! :-) But that made it feel very safe and mellow.
