We Hit the Roads of Northern Mexico

... going off of the road in Detroit, I was not about to go off of the highway. I see a break in the fence, probably allowing the throngs to get off of the highway and through to the depot and I say I am going for it. Hit the brakes on the RAM, crank her left, through the gap, and we are going west on the Aldama, and no one is chasing us.

Off West we go on the Aldama to the Calle Pedro M. Mendez, looking for the 40/400 series of highways that are heading south ...

      Not enjoying Tampico

A travel blog entry by benneal on Dec 03, 2012

We arrive in Tampico tired and get a taxi out to a hotel that no longer exists. Our taxi driver suggests another which is undergoing building work, and we end up at the beach front where half the hotels are stupidy expensive towers of sanity, or grimy part-time brothels. We end up back at the bus station and buy our tickets out for the next morning!

      Leaving San Miguel/Mexico for Ottawa/Canada

... br> Also in April, the tortured and bound bodies of seven men were dumped in the
Pacific port city of Lazaro Cardenas along with messages signed by allies of the
      Sinaloa drug gang.
Officials last year found 193 bodies in mass graves in the Tamaulipas state
town of San Fernando. They were believed to have been migrants killed by the
Zetas drug cartel. Another 72 migrants, many of them from Central America, were
found slain in San Fernando in 2010

Life for the gringos in Mexico

We arrived back in Mexico on Sunday the 12th of September. It was a great trip down from Portland but we were very tired. We drove about 10 hours every day. As some of you know we had a sister from here that was visiting Portland ride back with us. "Karen" When we arrived back in Altamira her mother had a delicious meal waiting for us. See why we love it here. The brothers are really wonderful. Anyway, I will try to show some pictures of our travels through the US. It was so beautiful.

      First Day in Mexico!

      (Steven)

To sum this day up in one word…..INSANE!!!!! All I kept thinking was what in the !$%# did we get ourselves into?!?!?

To start off, we left our hotel in Brownsville, TX around 9am after waking up at 5:30 am to do a little more research (actually Nina was up at 5:30, I rolled out of bed around 7am). Off to get our Mexico insurance! Of course we were relying on ...
