Our journey from Jacksonville to the west coast of the USA started by heading north across the state line into Georgia to visit Okefenokee Swamp. This area is normally a haven for wildlife and also provides a decent seven mile loop road with board walks into the park. We did not see a huge number of critters, which was a shame, and this may have been due to the cold and damp conditions - only us humans are stupid ...

We went back to our camp site, started a fire and grilled some delish pork chops and corn on the cobb. Half way through dinner it started pouring with rain again! We raced back inside. The rain didn't last too long but by then I'd changed into dry clothes and was too tired to go back out again. We called it a night.

Seven years ago when we were here, we had put a Walmart location into our GPS to do some shopping. This was at a place called "Pass Christian", when we got to the point that Walmart was supposed to be located all we found was a cement slab Katrina had wiped out the building and most of the coastline including the boardwalk that followed the beach. Houses near the water had been devastated.

So much re-building work has happened ...

... lot. Now, there were plenty of cars abandoned there as well, but the most shocking to me was the car that had been abandoned about two feet from the Publix automatic doors. Seriously, I drove by it in slow-mo just so I could stare at it for longer. The audacity!

By the time I finally made it onto Nine Mile and down to the gas station, Erin had almost fallen into the whirlpool being created in the Tom Thumb parking lot. I totally had to ...
