Tonto Natural Bridge, Payson, AZ

A travel blog entry by travelprincess1

I LOVED PAYSON!!!! It was a wonderful town with tons of things to do! We saw the "Tonto Natural Bridge". (Spanish: "tonto". English translation: "fool". Did they intentionally name Tonto "tonto"???) We love the bridge and climbing around. We also rode horses at Kohl's Ranch Lodge. FUN!! (Today was Mother's day in 2004.)

... continued on to Strawberry. Interesting name, but don't ask. I pulled over at an abandoned store and walked a short distance to a garage. The mechanic, who owns the place, was of more help than the entire force of the US Government...we'll maybe not all of it. He gave me an idea of how and where to go. If was nice of them to allow ...

... The drop-off was steep and there are no guardrails. You have to watch for free ranging cattle along the roads, deer and falling rocks. The view of the Grand Canyon from the North Rim is no less breathtaking than the South Rim, but it is different. I'm not even going to try to find the words to describe the beauty. I can't. There was a stiff breeze with gusts up to 35 - 40 mph. Made for a few anxious moments while ...

... and the tour guide did seem to be a little upset that it is no longer considered a planet. One of the most interesting things that I learned about Pluto was that for about 20 years for 1979-1999 it was actually closer to the sun the Neptune was. Apparently every 200 hundred years or so its orbit takes it inside of Neptune. Anyhow other cities I have checked out in addition are Sedona and Prescott. On Monday i will be headed to the Phoenix area to check it out. I ...
